Uh oh, "…organized and deeply committed environmental activism has long been an important part of the UNFCCC process…"

Maybe this is why the US bailed out of the UNFCCC “Green Climate Fund” this week. The science has been “McKibbenized” for quite some time.

In The Hague, we saw for the first time organized disruption of the conduct of negotiation and publicly staged confrontations. While organized and deeply committed environmental activism has long been an important part of the UNFCCC process through major groups suchas NRDC, EDF/ED, WWF and Greenpeace, they have operated within the structure as constructive participants in the policy-setting process, along with industry.

It gets worse:

At The Hague, this “inside” role was supplemented by hundreds of young, relatively naïve demonstrators brought in specifically to energize the environmental presence and confront the process. Even some within the ranks of the more established participants — while disavowing the takeover of the negotiating room — saw fit to publicly offer Minister Pronk and the UNFCCC Secretariate a veiled threat of “Seattle” if the process failed to deliver.

In the context of this resurgence of “environmental fundamentalism” it is also interesting to contrast the dynamics of the final give-and-take between the US and the EU in The Hague.

Yes, the industry contacts have been very interesting. BP has been a supporter of carbon trading which could conceivably make oil more competitive than coal when it comes to energy generation.
DuPont is rather famous for:
1) Getting hemp banned to make nylon competitive
2) Banning CFC’s – their patents had run out and they’d developed far more expensive alternatives. This move put cheap albuterol inhalers out of reach for asthma suffers who live in poverty.
Fine examples of huge corporations twisting public opinion and government regulations in order to make massive profits.

Read 5192.txt and 3862.txt There must some sort of contest going on with 3862 in how many times “radical” can be used in one email:

The seminar series will investigate what it means to be radical in terms of economic strategy? Is it possible to define a radical local economic strategy? Does being radical need a radical movement, and what sorts of movements exist? It will examine experiences of radical local action, local initiatives, coalitions, social movements and previous forms of radical local economic action interacted with processes of large scale economic change in order to draw appropriate lessons from them. Do the lessons of the past still hold? How might we avoid past mistakes?

These two emails seem to use every “progressive” buzzphrase there is. 5192.txt made me groan as it was so stereotypical as to be cliché.
Those are the only two emails in the list from Seyfang but they just ooooze an “activist” bent at UEA.

Seriously: have a look a Peter Schweizer’s new book “Throw Them All Out” and then re-read some of these emails in that context and your stomach will begin to churn.

We got the denier mobs crawlin’ all over us, Mad Mikey’s still got the DA on his back, we lost some of our best guys at that shoot out over at Loose Judy’s and now the feds’ve got evidence to bust most of our rackets ”
Mad Mikey
“Don’tworryaboudit boss, I can take care of it. Me and my guys gonna get tooled up, take to the mattresses ‘n waste the lot of ’em. Pow! Splat!, we’ll use the HS secret weapon again – nobody messes with Mad Mikey!”
Big Jim
“ Yeah – that worked brilliantly last time didn’t it Mikey, your secret weapon’s killed more of our guys than the deniers have – that’s why the DA’s getting your cell ready.”
Crazy Kev
“Absolutely – you really screwed up with that HS crap, Mikey, people don’t take it seriously any more. You should see when my guys roll out the Nul Hypothesis – you can see the denier crowd shake with fear.”
Big Jim
“It’s not fear, Kev – they’re laughing at you again. But all youse guys all need to loosen up and get some strategy – listen to Gav – he’s the brains of the outfit.”
Garrotter Gav
(the British consigliere) “ I’ve been talking to Fingers Phil about the British end boss. Things looked bad there for a while – but he thinks he’s getting them under control”
Mad Mikey
“ Shit boss, why to we have to listen to those whingeing, yellow toothed pussies – it’s always the friggin’ same – the Limeys get into wars and we’ve gotta bail em out – it’s 1942 all over again. If it wasn’t for Fingers Phil and his CRU mob the feds would never have got their mitts on all the evidence in the first place.”
Big Jim
“Shuddup Mikey. You gotta understand it’s different over there. They may seem like a bunch of fairies, but Phil ‘n his guys have pulled some pretty sweet rackets in the UK. They don’t have the feds and politicos breathing down their necks all the time like we have. Everybody’s in on the scam there – the Queen’s son heads up the racket, the politicians ‘r all fixed and the feds do what they’re told. Y’know there’s even a protection mob called the Beeb, that Phil works with, who get 200 bucks protection from every citizen – and they don’t even have to work up a sweat smashing their stuff or roughing them up. If they don’t pay up the feds put ’em in jail – how sweet is that! We could learn a lot from the Brits.”
Gav
“Yes, Phil says the Beeb mob and their deal with the Guardianista family are keeping the lid on things over there. There’s a bit of trouble from the Bish’s mob but they’re old guys and they don’t stand a chance against the Beeb, the Guardianistas and the feds combined. We should take a lead from the Brits – keep our heads down, avoid showdowns and quietly take out any deniers we can get near to. That’s how we run things at the Arcy Bar. We let a couple of deniers in, not too many, let them make themselves comfortable until they speak out of turn – then Raypierre the Bear, Evil Eric and the heavy mob just quietly take ’em out back and they’re never seen again.”
Big Jim
“OK, Gav’s right – listen up. We’re gonna play it cool, pretend like nothing happened and send our soldiers around town to pick off the denier mob one at a time. With luck the whole thing’ll blow over before the feds can deal with all the evidence. We’ve got the big Durban meet with all the other families and Capo Patchi next week – we’ll review things there and see if we need to go to the mattresses
Oh – and one more thing, there may be some of you junior guys with wives ‘n kids, who’ve just been on the fringes the rackets, and might be thinking they could make a deal with the feds, clear their conscience and buy themselves some immunity. Weeelll…….. I unnerstand we’re all human and we have our little weaknesses and I really want to help you guys work ’em through – I just want you to know that if anyone feels that way, I’ve arranged for one-to-one counselling, with Raypierre the Bear and Evil Eric, in the basement room – next to the furnace.”

Some Committee of the UN creates international guidelines that some department of the national government adopts and makes national policy that some state/provincial department implements at the local level and not a single piece of legislation has passed through a branch of government responsible to voters.
People, your elected government is becoming meaningless. In too many cases, The Department of Red Tape is not only tasked with creating and implementing regulations, it is also tasked with enforcement of its own regulations without any interference from a body representing the people in the decision.

Rules, bible, authority? This is the wrong rhetorics. If we claim that established science (we) is the and the only access to knowledge or truth, we become quite arrogant or even tyrannical. About creationists: I don’t have any trouble with people believing that God created the world if that
helps them facing their existential life questions (anyway I don’t know whether science can ever say more about metaphysics than that it doesn’t exist, based on the assumption that what cannot be perceived by the senses is not real). About climate change: the problem with people believing that
it is a lie are dangerous if it turns out that we are right. Solution: scientists talk about probabilities, not about truth or knowledge (read some postmodern philosophers). I think we have to ‘teach’ society that and how to deal with it – see my Ethiopia example.
As science is not neutral but based on numerous assumptions, we cannot just stand aside as ‘knowledge producers’. We are part of society, we have the duty to be humble, explain our assumptions and results in a realistic and understandable way and to put it into a broader context.
“Hey, forest decline was a stupid lie, so climate change must be too.” What if climate change appears to be just mainly a multidecadal natural fluctuation? They’ll kill us probably…

Not a humble response, but a teaching from Jesus on taking a stand for equality.
Roman soldiers had the right to hit the subjugated nationals, but no further, typically a backhander which is as dismissive as you can get – by turning the other cheek this move becomes impossible.
The other example of ‘carrying a load for a mile and offering to carry it two’ – again Roman soldiers were allowed to order the subjugated to carry the soldier’s packs, but only for one mile. The offer to carry it for two is again a stand for human dignity – with the added frisson that the soldier can’t accept – he’s the one bound by their laws.

Oh, but they do make things. They manufacture inefficiency in certain places that make other places that would not be competitive into being more competitive. What they make is market inefficiency in one place in order to cause money to flow in a different direction.
It is much easier to make one place less efficient than it is to make another place more efficient. Sort of like it is easier and takes much lower skill to demolish a building than it takes to design and build one. It is much easier to impede economic activity than it is to stimulate it by active measures. This is all about impeding economic activity in one place so that it flows to a different place.

Maurice Strong, when he was young, worked for YMCA international. The story goes that he got his inspiration for the elite controlled international NGOs from that.
From Hofstra University law professor Peter Spiro

“Very few of even the larger international NGOs are operationally democratic, in the sense that members elect officers or direct policy on particular issues,” notes Peter Spiro. “Arguably it is more often money than membership that determines influence, and money more often represents the support of centralized elites, such as major foundations, than of the grass roots.” (The CGG has benefited substantially from the largesse of the MacArthur, Carnegie, and Ford Foundations.)

That is the primary reason I am against a large strong centralized government. In the USA the Federal Government has over four million (4,000,000 ) employees.
Just look at what the FDA and USDA did to US farmers with their “Harmonization” to international laws. SEE: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/11/24/world-bank-global-warming-journals-and-cru/#comment-808354
What most people do not realize is that, at least in the USA, the bureaucrats (or lobbyists) WRITE the actual laws not Congress. (Congress sort of hand waves and tells the bureaucrats to go ahead) They get away with this by “Publishing” the new Regs. in the Federal Register. If there is no large out cry from the public the reg then becomes LAW. In “the 2010 Federal Register was 81,405 pages long” [wiki]
And who runs the bureaucracy??? Why the bankers and large corporations through the corporate/government revolving door. http://www.cptech.org/ip/health/politics/revolvingdoor.html
Between the Astroturf NGOs run on corporate foundation funds, the corporate run bureaucracy and the corporate funded political candidates is it any wonder people say we now live under “Neo-Corporatism” (It is NOT capitalism but the opposite)
Oh and the really nasty part is with REGULATIONS you get fines and told what you can and can not do WITHOUT a jury trial in most cases. It is a complete end run around the Constitution.
I have yet to find ANYWHERE in the Constitution where bureaucrats have been given the right to run our country. I have only found some rather dicey rulings by the Supreme Court.

Sorry that is wrong, in the USA patents go for 17 years and can be renewed for an additional 17 years. At least during the time period of the 1970’s (I was working for a company hassling over a patent at the time)
That means it was a max of 36 years not 20 years.

So yes it looks like the patent was about to run out.

Sad part is that I feel we are all preaching to the choir here, and the converted don’t need this information so much as the average people do. I fear nobody with the resources to reach the masses in the “push” media will deliver this news to the people as those in that line of work tend to share the “progressive” socialist vision.

One of the best things I have seen so far:

“If you’re going to bomb the global economy back to the dark ages with environmental tax and regulation, if you’re going to favour costly, landscape-blighting, inefficient renewables over real, abundant, relatively cheap energy that works like shale gas and oil, if you’re going to cause food riots and starvation in the developing world by giving over farmland (and rainforests) to biofuel production, then at the very least you it owe to the world to base your policies on sound, transparent, evidence-based science rather than on the politicised, disingenuous junk churned out by the charlatans at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).”

Meanwhile, from Thursday’s “Material World” on Radio 4:-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b017mr3t
04:45 onward
We have Quentin Cooper with Lord Krebbs & Prof. John Beddington.
Bedwettington, who let’s remember is the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor (sic), in a discussion about risk and uncertainty, asks:-
“Is Climate Change happening?
“Is it driven by human activity?
“Is it inexorable in the current way?
“Is it driven by Greenhouse gas emissions?
“Complete consensus of informed scientific opinion that in fact there is there (sic)”
And much more besides, opining that it would be entirely wrong to suggest that there was any “uncertainty” about the “Science” just because “one scientist” disagreed with the “99” who were entirely part of the “consensus”.
Not much recognition there of the obvious uncertainties of even the chief proponents of the cAGW scare as clearly revealed by Climategate 2.
With “advisors” like Bedwettington, as breathtakingly incompetent as he is flagrantly dishonest, it is no wonder that the policies of every mainstream political party is as ludicrous as they are.
But, of course, this is a circular argument. Bedwettington, like Houghton, Watson, Tickell and all the other #### were selected as advisors specifically BECAUSE they are incompetent and malicious little #####s.

Seeing what I read in and from the second round of Climategate e-mails, it is time – HIGH TIME – for the United States to withdraw funding from IPCC and its lackey scientific agencies and call for the abolition of IPCC as a central, coordinating body. IPCC far oversteps the proper boundaries of an international agency and continues to act consistently with the (wrong) goal of forcing the governments of the world to make policies that are against their respective national interests. The U.S. government, if IPCC is not abolished, should threaten to withdraw all funding contributions to the UN and should kick the UN out of New York.
But understandably, it will take a presidential election in 2012 to accomplish that. I plan on raising this issue where I can with Republican candidates.

Cameron’s green guru reveals his doubts over global warmingBy Mail On Sunday Reporter
Last updated at 12:58 AM on 27th November 2011
Steve Hilton, the Prime Minister’s director of strategy and ‘green guru’, is the latest person to admit to doubts about climate change.
‘I’m not sure I believe in it,’ he announced at a meeting of the Energy Department, prompting one aide to blurt out: ‘Did I just hear that correctly?’
According to one witness, Hilton, 41, the man who coined the slogan ‘Vote Blue and Go Green’ and changed the Tory symbol from a Stalinist style torch to an eco friendly tree, said: ‘Climate change arguments are highly complex.
‘My focus has always been more on using green issues to improve the quality of life.’
Hilton famously persuaded David Cameron to go to the Arctic with a pack of huskies to prove that he was determined to combat global warming in his early days as Tory leader.
Now, however, Hilton as become a big fan of former Chancellor Nigel Lawson, a vocal critic of the global warming lobby.

When it comes to politics, the corporates are far better practitioners than politicians. The difference is they are more effective because they do it silently, whereas the politicians who are in the main in it for money and ego, make a lot of noise about politics but strangely are a lot quieter when it comes to feathering their nests.

In the USA we can thank the Dulles “boys” (John Foster Dulles ~ Head of the CIA & Allen Dulles) for that bit of propaganda. Teach it to a couple of generations and even the Judges will start believing it.

On April 11, 1952, Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles (cfr), speaking before the American Bar Association in Louisville, Kentucky said…

“Treaties make international law and also they make domestic law. Under our Constitution, treaties become the supreme law of the land…. Treaty law can override the Constitution. Treaties, for example, …can cut across the rights given the people by their constitutional Bill of Rights.”

…”This [Supreme] Court has regularly and uniformly recognized the supremacy of the Constitution over a treaty.” – Reid v. Covert, October 1956, 354 U.S. 1, at pg 17
….The Reid Court (U.S. Supreme Court) held in their Opinion that,

“… No agreement with a foreign nation can confer power on the Congress, or any other branch of government, which is free from the restraints of the Constitution. Article VI, the Supremacy clause of the Constitution declares, “This Constitution and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all the Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land…’
“There is nothing in this language which intimates that treaties and laws enacted pursuant to them do not have to comply with the provisions of the Constitution nor is there anything in the debates which accompanied the drafting and ratification which even suggest such a result…
“It would be manifestly contrary to the objectives of those who created the Constitution, as well as those who were responsible for the Bill of Rights – let alone alien to our entire constitutional history and tradition – to construe Article VI as permitting the United States to exercise power UNDER an international agreement, without observing constitutional prohibitions. (See: Elliot’s Debates 1836 ed. – pgs 500-519).
“In effect, such construction would permit amendment of that document in a manner not sanctioned by Article V. The prohibitions of the Constitution were designed to apply to all branches of the National Government and they cannot be nullified by the Executive or by the Executive and Senate combined

Our Approach
LEAD – Leadership for Environment and Development – was created by the
Rockefeller Foundation in 1991. We identify outstanding men
and women from around the world who are at mid-career level from a range of
backgrounds and provide them with training designed
to enhance their leadership capabilities and knowledge in environment and
development.
While remaining in their employment, these attend around 6 weeks of
residential courses per year and participante in distance learning.
This offers a stimulating two-year training programme based on lectures,
panel debates, site visits, self-guided studies and group
discussions. Lectures are delivered by leading experts from academia,
international organisations, the private sector and international NGOs.
With a focus on action-oriented, multi-disciplinary learning, LEAD assists
its participants to address complex issues by transcending
the limits of their own disciplines. It encourages them to work
co-operatively and to become agents of change in their workplaces,
communities, countries and beyond. LEAD’s learning environment is based on
mutual respect, equal opportunity, transparency, and solidarity.
Through a post-graduate Fellows Programme and an Internet-based computer
network, LEAD provides its alumni with links to each
other and to the environment and development communities at large.
LEAD-Europe
At LEAD-Europe, a not-for-profit foundation located in Geneva, Switzerland,
we have been training professionals from Central,
Eastern and Western Europe since 1995. Drawing its strength from Europe’s
cultural, social and economic diversity, LEAD-Europe’s
network of alumni allows durable links to be built between Europeans from
diverse professional backgrounds and sectors.
Therefore it contributes in a unique way towards an environmentally and
socially sustainable European integration and enlargement.
This capacity will be further enhanced with the move of LEAD-Europe’s
headquarters to Bonn, Germany, in June 1999. LEAD-Europe
receives support from governmental and private sources. It works in
collaboration with international organisations and NGOs located
in Geneva as well as with European institutions that are concerned with
sustainability issues.
Our Structure
LEAD is a world-wide network of training programmes dedicated to developing
the leadership skills necessary to deal with today’s
global environment and sustainable development challenges. Participants in
the LEAD programme are outstanding professionals
from diverse cultures, backgrounds and career levels.
The LEAD network currently includes an International Secretariat and twelve
Member Programmes located in Brazil, Canada, China,
the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Europe, India, Indonesia,
Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan and Zimbabwe (for Southern Africa).
Each Member Programme has a distinct legal identity and governing
structure, and three of them (Canada, Europe, Japan) are
independently funded. The International Secretariat, LEAD-International,
oversees the network, develops policy guidelines, organises
international training sessions and supplies a range of services to the
national and regional Member Programmes.
Our Mission and Rationale
LEAD’s guiding philosophy is rooted in the ethical value of caring for the
planet and for all forms of life. LEAD is dedicated to
creating and sustaining a global network of leaders who are committed to
promoting change towards patterns of economic
development that are environmentally sustainable and socially equitable.
The LEAD programme is a response to the heightened importance of engaging
decision-makers, executives, academics and
NGO leaders in a constructive effort to design strategies and implement
solutions in the interest of a more sustainable future.
LEAD offers a much-needed alternative to the great majority of business
and management schools that still consider the environment
and sustainability as peripheral to their core activities.
Objectives
The LEAD-Europe training programme is designed to provide participants with
an understanding of the complex issues that lie at the
interface of environment and development in a pan-European context. It
specially aims to develop the participants’ capacity to act and
motivate others to act in the interest of sustainability in their
workplace, communities and countries. It is multi-disciplinary and draws
upon
the experience of a network of experts and trainers at the forefront of
their different fields of activity. The curriculum and format aim to meet
the specific needs and priorities of participants, so as to complement
their professional commitments.
Through the LEAD Fellowship Programme, LEAD-Europe Fellows remain actively
involved in various activities of the LEAD network.
They are eligible to receive financial support in the form of grants for
specific projects in the areas of environment and development
designed with concrete outcomes in mind. They also participate in LEAD’s
governing structures at the international, regional and national levels.
The Curriculum
The LEAD-Europe programme comprises 80 days of training. Half of the
training programme is conducted in Europe, while the other half
consists of interregional or international sessions. This provides a
unique opportunity to work with professionals from other countries and
to be part of a powerful global network of young leaders.
The curriculum covers the essential aspects of the environment and
development nexus, such as, for example, understanding the cyclic
nature of living phenomena, environmental management and resource
conservation, human development, social and economic issues,
international law and conventions, trade and environment, biological
diversity, science and ethics, technology and energy, industry and
environment, and gender issues. In addition to these issues, the programme
emphasises building leadership skills and provides opportunities
to develop problem solving, negotiation, conflict resolution, and team
building skills.
Participants / qualifications
Individuals recruited into a LEAD Member Programme are known as
“Associates”. They are normally between the ages of 30 and 40,
and are drawn from academia, business, government, media and NGOs. Close
to 200 Associates are selected each year world-wide
to enter the LEAD programme. There are at present 800 LEAD graduates – or
“Fellows”.
LEAD-Europe recruits 15 Associates per year. Successful applicants must
have an appropriate academic background and at least five
years of professional experience. They must have demonstrated leadership
skills in their profession or in community service and have
a keen interest in the interface between environment and development. They
must be able to work in English.
Application and funding
Interested candidates should include the following in their application
package:
Completed application form
Detailed resume or curriculum vitae
One-page statement that explains how the LEAD-Europe programme will be of
value to their current responsibilities
Their employer’s signed agreement to their full participation in the
programme.
The programme fee is EURO 10,000 per participant. This fee is a
contribution towards meeting the cost of tuition, course material,
scheduled activities and accommodation. Candidates should approach their
current employers or funding institutions to obtain funding
as soon as possible. Candidates, in particular those from Central and
Eastern Europe, who are unable to obtain assistance, can also
apply to LEAD-Europe for financial support.
The application deadline is May 15, 1999. Applications will be reviewed
and suitably qualified applicants will be invited for interview
before being admitted to the programme. Prospective applicants are
encouraged to apply as soon as possible as space is limited
and competition is keen.
Applications should be sent to:

However Anthony has a big readership world wide and even better, stuff written here gets “Lifted” and posted to other blogs. We even see stuff from here rewritten and used by professional journalists.
Sometimes we as individuals can use the stuff we find here to coax individuals to a more moderate stance. The Occupy Wall Street crowd has awoken to the bankers fractional reserve game. These e-mails can then help them make the connection between the Banks and the CAGW scam. The African Land grab is turning into a real sore point and Al Gore’s hind end is waving in the breeze with that one esp given Friday Mukamperezida’s death by burning.
The old saying is “a Conservative is a Liberal that got mugged” Getting CONNED and made a fool of is even worse than a simple mugging. So this applies to the rank and file “liberals” who became members of Willi Münzenberg ‘Innocents’ Clubs’ They really have no idea of who is behind the Activists groups they join, but will become livid when they realise IF you can pry their eyes open.
In one tiny back page article in the Wall Street Journal (April 1994??) Papers in the Kremlin showed that not only were Activist groups here in the USA funded by the KGB but they were actually RUN by KGB agents. I did not clip and save the article because I thought it would become front page news. That was before I wised up to how the world is really run and who actually runs it.

Oh, and I think Occupy Wall Street was “Organized” as an Astroturf movement to counter the TEA Party. The message about the Federal Reserve Banks was just too strong and had to be countered, especially before the 2012 elections.
The confused liberals now have a group they can cling to and go back to sleep comforted that a “Protest” will cure all and they do not have to align themselves with the conservative camp.
(I am not a member of the Tea Party BTW)

Funding for climate campaigners.
A call for proposals.
from climate-l@eyfa.org
Deadline: 30th September 1999
**please distribute to others who may be interested**
We would like to invite proposals from activists working on climate campaigning.
Following an activist and NGO meeting in March this year, attended by climate
activists from Europe, Asia, USA, Australia and Latin America, funding was obtained to
support two people to work on a project connected to the sixth United Nations Climate
Convention, otherwise known as the Conference of the Parties (COP6), which will
happen in Autumn/Winter 2000/2001. The United Nations is currently considering only
one possible location for the meeting – den Haag, The Netherlands.
The International working group formed after the activist and NGO meeting are looking
for two people who would be able to create something innovative and effective with
this funding. They will be based in a Climate research group in Portugal,
‘Euronatura’. The campaign will be supported by the International working group
which has experience of United Nations negotiations, direct action, campaigning,
economics and climate science. Groups supporting this campaign include : eyfa, Aseed,
Carbusters Magazine, Korean Ecological Youth, Free The Planet USA, EuroNatura, Climate
Action Network Latin America, Climate Action Network Central and Eastern Europe and
Oilwatch Europe.
The thing that joins these people together is the desire to work together to
radicalise the agenda of the climate negotiations.
The current direction of the
negotiations cannot hope to define targets nor build mechanisms of implementation and
compliance which will stop the currently dangerous emissions levels of Greenhouse
Gases.
Ideally, the collaboration between the two funded volunteers, Euronatura and the
International working group, will touch on all aspects of climate change and the
related campaigns of oil, forest, marine and transport. Equally, the collaboration
will be aware of all strategies to counter the weakness of the United Nations and the
dominance of certain lobbying groups (notably the oil and nuclear industry). The
strategies discussed by the International working group revolve around direct action,
research and negotiation.
Project ideas which have been discussed are a counter/alternative meeting at the same
time and place as the UN meeting and/or a symbolic event such as The Climate Train to
Kyoto. Please bring YOUR ideas to us! What do you think would be the most effective
way to radicalise the UN agenda and protect the climate from our current economic
and political systems? There are plans for a team to work in USA on a parallel
campaign.
The project should begin by the end of the 1999.
Are you a person who has the energy, skills and commitment to coordinate the European
component of an international campaign?
(unfortunately, the funding is only for people *under 26 years of age *from Iceland,
Norway, Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine,
Syria, Tunisia, Turkey or any EU country)
Please make your proposal for the campaign which you would like to be part of…

‘Rewriting History’
http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/rewriting_history.htm
…In 1954, a special Congressional Committee investigated the interlocking web of tax-exempt foundations to see what impact their grants were having on the American psyche. The Committee stumbled onto the fact that some of these groups had embarked upon a gigantic project to rewrite American history and incorporate it into new school text books.
Norman Dodd, the committee’s research director found, in the archives of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace the following remarkable statement of purpose:

The only way to maintain control of the population was to obtain control of education in the U.S. They realized this was a prodigious task so they approached the Rockefeller Foundation with the suggestion that they go in tandem and that portion of education which could be considered as domestically oriented be taken over by the Rockefeller Foundation and that portion which was oriented to International matters be taken over by the Carnegie Endowment.

The Rockefeller Foundation agreed to take on the domestic portion of the task. The purpose of all this interest in history, was of course to rewrite it. Dodd explained:

They decided that the success of this program lay in the manner in which American history was to be presented. They then approached four of the then most-prominent historians — such as Mary and Charles Beard — with the suggestion that they alter the manner in which they were accustomed to presenting the subject. They [were] turned down flat, so…they decided they [had] to build a coterie of historians of their own selection.

The Guggenheim Foundation agreed to award fellowships to historians recommended by the Carnegie Endowment. Gradually, through the 1920’s, they assembled a group of twenty promising young academics, and took them to London. There they briefed them on what was expected of them when they became professors of American history. That twenty were the nucleus of what was eventually to become the American Historical Association…..

“These 3 groups earned $500 Million in 2010. Quite a bit short of $1.8B”
Your 3 examples earned an average of 166.66 million; to reach 1.8Bn you need 10.8 groups if we assume the sample was representative.
Here’s a list; but it’s not complete. The Carbon Trust and Clinton’s foundation are missing from it, for instance.
http://green.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_environmental_organizations
There’s hundreds and hundreds of them. Whoever added it all up and arrived at 1.8Bn Aussie Dollars does sound believable.
There are, of course tutorials on the Internet if you feel the need to start another one and get your snout in the trough.

“This book is an action guide to help you start your own environmental group and fix an environmental problem.”

And way down that page we find:
“Donations or sponsorship from companies. As well as cash donations these might include gifts for prizes, raffles, or the use of equipment. Sponsorship and donations can be found in the most unusual places, as well as through the usual places. Look amongst companies that may benefit from your campaign, but be scrupulous about the companies you receive money from!
Government grants. You may be able to get a grant to undertake your project. Or the group may be able to contract for government-instigated research which is in their field of expertise.”
Like making stuff up for the IPCC.

What do you think would be the most effective
way to radicalise the UN agenda and protect the climate from our current economic
and political systems? There are plans for a team to work in USA on a parallel
campaign.
The project should begin by the end of the 1999.

Activism to radicalize the UN agenda. Well, it worked.

Oh, Jeff Id posted this upthread a little. I pointed it out a few days ago, too. Its from Dr. Viner, which makes the idea that these guys could possibly find any confirmation biases laughable at best.

One is left wondering what is in the remaining emails that they have to be held back, and who the target of this blackmail is.

More on David Viner and the British Council

Generations with the most at stake
16 December 2009
http://www.publicservice.co.uk/feature_story.asp?id=13326
Dr David Viner, head of the British Council’s climate change programme, tells Alison Thomas why young people have such a vital role to play in negotiations designed to save the world.
…some of the brightest and beadiest eyes scrutinising the politicians belong to a global network of concerned young people, galvanised into action by the work of the British Council in some 60 countries.
…More than 100,000 young people are signed up to the council’s international climate champions network, choosing climate change champions in each nation and working to develop grassroots solutions and share them with others.

British Council gets in on the climate act
Why is the British Council spending taxpayers’ money on the recruiting of 100,000 “international climate champions”, asks Christopher Booker

1.8 Gigadollars! That would pay for one entire power station every two years somewhere in the world. Instead, it is wasted on a bunch of useless people!

It’s not a surprise to see a big business acting in this manner. I am not against big business, but I always remember that the only reason for any business to exist is to make money. They don’t exist to give people jobs, or produce food or fuel, or make cool computers. These are just side benefits of trying to make money. They also don’t exist to follow societal ethics or morality, or even act legally, but the latter might land you in prison which doesn’t help a business make money. The former two are only considerations if they hurt the bottom line. There are plenty of illegal and unethical businesses that make big money.
Small business has no power to manipulate government into passing laws favorable to them, but big business does, so it should be no surprise that they lobby Congress to change the laws to favor them since our elected representatives have put themselves in a position to do so. Business will do whatever is necessary to make money no matter if it is rational or not. If carbon trading will make a business lots of money, then carbon trading it is. Whether it hurts the overall economy is no matter.
With this in mind, and borrowing from Jefferson’s “a wall between church and state,” I say we need a wall between business and state, at least in the sense that business cannot buy the favor of lawmakers. And after all these Climategate revelations, I think we need to consider a wall between public science and state too. It seems that some publicly funded scientists have become government lobbyists promoting both their personal beliefs and their own financial gain.

Gail.
I actually worked for a national Patent Office. You have to have a very, very good reason to extend past the 17 years. (Usually it is only awarded to drugs, which take so long to get to market that the patents are worthless otherwise.)
The patent you cite (#3258500) is not a patent for Freon. It is a process patent. Anyone could make Freon at the time, provided they used another method. A catalyst patent might be worth something, but process patents rarely.
Companies like DuPont own loads and loads of patents worth effectively nothing. I know, I used to see dozens of theirs (surfactants mostly). It’s small beer for them, and it might slow their competitors down a little.
There is no way that patent was keeping anyone else from making Freon. And that still leaves the problem: why did DuPont’s competitors agree to the CFC ban if it was only helping DuPont?

We need a Chemical Rehab Society. For Freon, DDT, Alar, aspartame, and many more.

This looks like a “Pay for play”, i.e., WWF is paying scientists to write press releases:
#3107
http://dump.kurthbemis.com/climategate2/FOIA/mail/3107.txt
date: Mon, 19 Jul 1999 07:13:31 -0400
from: “markham/dompka”
subject: Climate scenarios
to: “mike hulme”
“* Please refer to WWF just as WWF, since we have two different names. ”
“* In the first paragraph in the second column (the section on the last century), is it confusing to talk about the two periods of maximum warming? Critics often talk about the lack of explanation for no warming between 1940 and 1970 as a reason to disregard the warming trend. Maybe you can clarify, explain or leave out?
“* Is there any space for a couple of blown-up quotes in the margin or somewehere? If so, I nominate these two – possibly paraphrased to be shortened in the second case:
1. From 3rd para. The year 1998 was probably the warmest…
2. From 5th para. Recent climate model experiments show that…”
“* Somewhere I’d like a stronger sentence/reference to possibly biodiversity, wildlife or species loss. As far as I can see, it only gets a very vague mention “”
“On contracts. I’m really sorry about the mess and will try to start sorting this out this morning when I get into work (you can call or e-mail me there). Just remind me though, this contract did not account for the publication, printing and distribution did it? WWF-UK seems to be confused about this and now I am too. Apologies again – maybe next time, I’ll pay the university overheads. Adam”
