Did Al Gore get the Miss Rhode Island Idea from Woody Allen's "Bananas"?

Joe Bastardi writes in regarding this WUWT story about Miss Rhode Island talking about sea level rise on Gore’s Climate Reality Project

Check this out, (its hilarious)  though it has some PG parts,  pay attention to the last minute and Miss America’s testimony:

I got to thinking that maybe Al Gore got his idea to bring Miss Rhode Island in  from this scene.  Then again, he may have been  busy creating Love Story, which was  at about the same time, so one cannot tell.

What is kind of scary is this:  Pay attention to what Miss America says in  satire, and think about the silencing efforts going on in this debate today.  I never grow tired of the movie Bananas,  but its ironic that this scene which is  arguably  one of the funniest scenes in movies,  is a reminder of what is going on with the attempts at squishing dissent.

Okay fun’s  over,  back to  work

Okay then, got back to work, but please be sure not to get bogged down in the metrics.

And all this time I though Al Gore simply liked attractive women. Are you trying to say he’s gone bananas?

He trained her personally… it’s true! So, this explains a lot of the disinformation she knows. I bet if you ask her what is the temperature of the center of the earth she will answer millions of degrees.

The sad thing is that these people actually get to influence other people. Whilst they fiddle and we chortle the World is going bankrupt and an awful lot of people are starving to death on the Horn of Africa. Both events eminently predictable even with our limited knoweldge, but neither prepared for.

The first post was after the conclusion of Gore-a-thon was about Miss Rhode Island? Who cares about Miss Rhode Island? Are you playing the warmist card that she can’t speak because she’s not a scientist? Why not a summation of the skeptic rebuttals? Excuse the grumpy attitude, but this just wasn’t that funny. That and it’s late. I’m sure you guys need a nap or two also, given you’ve been up that whole time. Props to the mods for keeping up. Still, I’d like to reiterate my point that a 24 point rebuttal would be more effective than laughing at Miss Rhode Island. Especially since she is used to it, since all the other states laugh at Rhode Island.

This Miss of the U.S. state thinks that only some maths should be taught at schools. Addition, not… uhm… times.

People shouldn’t learn just numbers but also smells, colors, and vibrations. Numbers are everywhere. On houses. On cars. On… uhm… microwaves.

WUWT, home of “subversive mothers”!
Or at least a place to hang, and revel in our subversiveness.

Talking of Sea Level, when should we expect the Sea Level graphs to update? Does Miss Rhode Island know?

It was Mr Gore. He trades embedding credits over on the YouTube .PayPerClick exchange.

Dear David Falkner, you wrote:

I respectfully disagree. I haven’t watched for 24 hours, of course, but because I considered it a part of my duties, I watched – with just a few interruptions – for 3 hours or so and I know that this wasn’t a 24-hour stream with arguments. It was a 1-hour talk repeated 24 times in different languages and there were no serious arguments in the show – serious from the viewpoint of regular WUWT readers who are at a pretty high level.
So talking about Miss Rhode Island is about the appropriate reaction to this not so important 24-hour event. I am almost certain that Anthony agrees that we – he as well as myself and others – heavily overestimated the impact and richness of the content of the Climate Reality Project and it was probably a mistake to promote this non-event to our “event of the day”. Dozens of random people just repeated on a random server on the Internet, without any evidence, that a couple of floods, droughts etc. were totally due to CO2 (and that tobacco companies are paying for denial or whatever), which is just preposterous and deserves no further reaction.
The whole program of Climate Parody Day was composed of similar Misses Rhode Island who just parroted some irrational superstitions linking human activity to weather, speculations that were invented by non-scientists and no scientist, not even on the alarmist side, would endorse them. It was a very cheap sort of climate porn and it was presented by unspectacular people. Miss RI was exceptionally bright among the other people. Lucy Lawless was the only other attractive presenter but her speech was stopped at the beginning because her satellite connection was powered by a wind turbine and wind over New Zealand quickly stopped…
Again, I think that you are being unfair if you suggest that Anthony may produce lots of (or even 24 hours of) quality science that would be a response to Gore’s new slide show. There was no actual science or arguments in the new slide show so it’s hard to see how science or meaningful content could appear in a “rebuttal”. Moreover, Gore’s new slide show was a 1-hour talk, not a 24-hour talk. It was just repeated 24 times. Some people think that repetition makes statements true and some people, apparently including you, are buying that.
My impressions from the day:

Mods – do not know if you can help here, but in Australia when we click on videos like the above there is no action and a message “Disabled by Request. Please view on YouTube.”

This has to be a parody. Right? Please? Nobody capable of standing on their hind legs is that thick. And they’re not talking about mathematics. They’re talking about basic arithmetic. It starts to be mathematics when otherwise intelligent people don’t understand anything you’re talking about. I started to have difficulties when it got to partial differential equations of the third degree. It might be interesting to ask those girls about algebra 🙂

Quotes from Woody Allen’s bananas: (Please excuse the formatting
Why me?
– Because the men respect you. You always loved our cause.
Besides, compared to these men, you are educated.
What is this with my education?
l had two days of college.
l need three years and [??] days to get a degree.
– This is a country of peasants. At least you can read.
l don’t want to be president. You’re making a big mistake.
You gotta be smart to be a president. Let me be vice-president. That’s a real idiot’s job.

“Disabled by Request. Please view on YouTube.” is most likely caused by the computer setting you are using. Look at “block sites using peer requested” under “global settings” for Flash playback.

Oh, no, no, no. It was millions of degrees only a few kilometers beneath the surface…unless he thinks the Earth has a radius of only a few kilometers…

why one mediocre city that’s crumbling gets 2 senators all to itself is beyond me.

My random snooping of Gore’s pitch is that if the citizens of the West are stupid enough to be convinced by that trash then we’ve failed as a society and deserve to be reduced to solar-cooker-baked rats and bamboo bicycles.

It’s possible and it was certainly funny. While Miss America’s part was funny, I thought the readback of the testimony was funnier.
It’s just the subject is simultaneously silly and very serious.

Often the “Disabled” message is country-dependent. In Canada, often get versions of it for material from the US and UK.
