June 10th is Hug a Climate Scientist Day

Hal Jordan, via the Submit Story feature submits this brief entry:

Apparently, Australian AGW advocates are not well liked.

Aussie climate scientists need random hugs from strangers to reassure them that they aren’t universally hated.

Or is it to reassure them they won’t be out of jobs when it turns out they’re wrong? In the back of their wee little minds, it must be a concern.

I am not sure if it is possible to find a real climate scientist, while there are lots of “climate scientists” sucking hard at the grants teat, or producing ever more alarming scare stories in order to justify their bloated salaries.
If I find one, I will hug him/her just for the hell of it, before giving him/her an invoice for all the damage and unnecessary expense they are causing.

Couple of points.
1. It has been revealed that some of the email “threats” date back to early 2010 and in effect pre-dates the Aust Govt’s decision to implement a carbon tax by a whole year.
2. The artist of the cartoon produces cartoons for the left wing Australian website called “crikey” (among other media outlets). I was a bit surprised to see it here.

Louise is referring to a Green led ban on exporting live cattle to indonesia. This followed a ‘public outcry’ after scenes of cruelty were filmed in an Indonesian slaughter house.
Firstly, I grew up on a dairy farm and I detest any cruelty to cows which are in the main gentle creatures…but as with so much Green thinking there is an absence of logic which has lead to a glaring and frankly appalling error of judgment on the part of the Gillard Government. Let me put it this way.
Cruelty to some cows in Indonesia = despicable= perpetrators should be punished = practice abolished = 1 X on the ‘scale of suffering’.
Cruelty to 250.000! cows which will not be exported over the next six months = hunger…transport…slaughter…pit burial…unimaginable pain and waste = cruelty to farmers, feed stock merchants, truckers, stock yard owners, ship owners = financial ruin…domestic violence…possible suicide = 1000 X on the same ‘scale of suffering.
I a reminded of when the Animal Liberation People in the UK ‘liberated’ the population of a mink farm so that the cute furry things would not be harmed….it simply didn’t occur to them that the mink would kill every living thing on the river system for miles around…in short they caused an ecological disaster.
The Greens are a menace and must be stopped.

I love the part where it says “The university denied it was creating a ruse, maintaining the initial report, in the Fairfax-owned Canberra Times last week, failed to indicate when the threats were made.” Nor were the nine scientists “locked away.”
What, no peer-review? Shame on the university! How can we be expected to believe university staff, much less scientists, if they have no capacity to review the work of others? That could lead to white-washed investigations and worse!

For the benefit of non- Australian readers the ‘hug a climate scientist’ is one small part of a concerted campaign by warmists who all came crawling out of the woodwork in response to the Gillard Labor Govt’s shocking poll numbers, largely because of their backflip on introduction of a carbon tax, but also their general fiscal and policy incompetence. With World Environment Day falling on a Sunday the usual rentacrowd were out in a few noisy thousands in the capital cities to spruik the Govt’s failing stocks with a ‘Yes to carbon tax day’. You’ll get the flavour and the hypocrisy exposed of some notable attendees here-
http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/column_a_lecture_on_emissions_from_the_lady_on_the_jet/
Yes we have our Hollywood hypocrites too and the usual jetsetting carbonistas dropping in for moral support.
No coincidence mind you, but at the same time the Canberra Times (you know those Washington librul media types) breaks the story that Australian National University climate scientists are receiving death threats and woe is them and get out the sympathy vote folks. Except that it was all a beatup by the warmists increasingly desperate as their world view is crumbling all about them now-
http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/even_those_death_threats_are_a_beat_up/
Their time in the sun in Australia is coming to an end like it is everywhere else and we have the power and democracy of the internet to thank for that, not least sites like WUWT. Charlatans and carpet-baggers cannot control the message and the ether forever, although they can certainly ride the waves of mass hysteria for some considerable time.

In Oz, on Monday 6th June a local TV Channel website Ninemsn ran a poll asking : “should an election be held before a carbon tax is introduced”. I did not see the final result but in less than a 24 hour period the voting was:
YES 109,158
NO 25,762
IMO the significance of this poll should not be underestimated, coming as it did after a fortnight of intensive non-stop propaganda by government and associated CAGW believers, of which the bogus death threat beatup was a part.
It also included the Steffen Report which was just a rehash of the guesses in the pathetic UNIPCC 2007 Report:
the grossly misleading and deceptive Cate Blanchett/Michael Caton celebrity ad:
the trundling out of former Prime Ministers and a bitter former Leader of the Liberal Party who is a principal in an investment firm dealing with renewable energies:
compliant church leaders, some of whom, if the UK experience is similar, probably have their Church Pension Funds invested in companies relying on heavily subsidised renewable energy investments:
the almost daily recycling of all the old scare-ā€™em-silly disaster scenarios by a succession of all the usual suspects, P.M Gillard, Climate Change Minister Combet, The Greens Brown & Milne, (Chief Priest and High Priestess respectively of the CAGW Cult), discredited alarmist Tim Flannery*, UNIPCC scientist David Karoly , “our” ABC et al:
the mindless chanting GET UP/Unions and others campaign “Say Yes to a Carbon(dioxide)Tax ” etc.,etc.
Despite all this, in a 24-hour period nearly 135,000 people chose to register a vote with a massive majority calling for an election and by default, registering their opposition to a tax on carbon dioxide. In my view, these numbers reflect the widespread concern in the community which journalist and polticians fail to recognise. Combet dismisses such clear opposition merely as rabble stirred up by L/CP Leader Tony Abbott. How wrong he and most MSM journalists are!!

The half baked stories of recent death threats to Australian climate pseudo scientists were cooked up from stale emails years old. These stories however were not intended to garner sympathy for the climate activist scientists, rather they were intended as a smear against sceptics. This was supposed to lend support to calls for less coverage of sceptic views in the media as it may encourage such behaviour. This is evidenced by stories such as this –
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/higher-education/calls-to-calm-a-climate-of-fear/story-e6frgcjx-1226070849313
– being placed in media shortly after the initial death threat stories. Delightfully the whole sorry edifice of lies has collapsed, causing main stream media embarrassment to it’s intended benefactors.

Speak for yourself, fred. I certainly hate them, and it’s not about us ignoring them. As long as the bureaucrats and the politicians don’t ignore their “research” grant applications and shovel out for them the billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars to fund their academic empire-building, we’ve got more than sufficient reason to hate them.
Every damned time one of them signs his (her) name to a funding application containing the knowing utterance of falsehoods in order to obtain government funding, he (she) is perpetrating theft of value by fraud. Might be a case for taking them on under the RICO statute, too. Or didn’t that evidence of coordination discovered in the Climategate e-mail communications cross your threshold of appreciation?

In Canada the environmentalists fight tooth and nail every year against the annual east coast seal hunt. They claim it is cruel and only provides seal pelts for rich folks.
However in Australia the environmentalists are promoting a camel hunt. It too will be cruel, but they say killing camels will save the planet from climate catastrophe so its ok.
How is a camel hunt really any different from a seal hunt?
How can environmentalists face themseves in the mirror every morning?

In order to hug a climate scientist, one must catch one first. Here are instructions on how to catch the wily climate scientists with a shovel, cord of wood, and a pea.
First use the shovel to dig a deep hole. Next burn the cord of wood and place the ashes in the hole. Now place the pea beside the hole. Hide yourself near-by and wait.
When the correct scientist comes to take a pea… KICK him/her in the ash-hole. GK

If you can’t (or don’t want to) hug a climate scientist you could always have a Picnic with one of their neighbours instead:
Join scientists at special picnic
A group supporting the John Innes Centre in Norwich is inviting people to peruse the grounds and talk to their top scientists. The Friends of John Innes are holding a Pimms and Picnic in the Plots at 6pm followed by a walk around the small site plots at 6.30pm. Visitors can also talk to crop scientists and enjoy strawberries and cream in the conference centre at 8.30pm. The event is on Monday, June 20, at the Centenary Henge, near the John Innes Centre, Colney Lane, Norwich. Attendance is free.
Note: The John Innes Centre is just over the road from the UEA…

Camels are not native to Australia. Inevitably, they out-compete our mostly marsupial mammals. Fur seals are, to the best of my understanding, native to the region where they are hunted.
