What climate science has come to: a rap music video with expletives

While not as bad as the horrid 10:10 video exploding children, I have to wonder this about the actual scientists that participated in this farce: what were you thinking ?

Of course, it does seem some circles in climate science are all about bling, and cheerleaders, and labeling people with ugly insulting profanity these days. So maybe, this is simply “state of the art”. The phrase “Real Climate Scientists” is used…hmm.

Watch this video from Australia (warning – profanities)

The lyrics are available here at the website where they made the video.

50 seconds was all I could manage. Jesus, it makes you want to weep, the fact that that actual scientists think that this is the best way to convince the world of their hypothesis. On the positive side, the only people who would actually be suckered by this
crap would be the cretins who already “believe.”
Still, I need a drink.

Just because they say so doesn’t make it so. In addition to being annoying, which is no surprise, I would question their expertise as much as that of the people they are deriding.
A scientist isn’t a person who parrots talking points on an issue and tries to turn the learning process into a religious crusade.

As a father of a 13 year old I’m glad to tell you that ANYTHING presented to teenagers in the form of a rap video is immediately and summarily dismissed as pathetic. One more nail in their own coffin.
Frankly ANYTHING presented to ANYONE as a rap video is pathetic.
And can anyone tell me exactly what qualifies one as a “Climate Scientist”? My University which has one of the largest Meteorology Depts in the country only offers Climatology as a minor in the Geography Dept. Somehow a PhD in Metorolgy, Geography, Physics or Statistics is less qualified to opine on the matter than someone with a minor in Climate Science? More like “Climate Studies”.

Each week I browse a number of “climate skeptic” blogs. I often look for signs that a “tipping point” has arrived, indicating that the alarmist edifice is crumbling beyond all possible repair. This video, more than anything I have seen this year, convinces me that this point has arrived. Thanks for posting.

Most of them aren’t climate scientists. Also, those claiming to be PhD do not say what their PhD is in. At least one of them had “economics” in their title. Many were students or lecturers.
It’s interesting how “Deniers” were portrayed with a cowboy hat, boots and lots of money with clear destroy-the-world behavior. I wonder if any of those “climate scientists” in the video have ever once stopped to consider that the people “denying” their conclusion look exactly like them, hold the same jobs, have the same education they do. But of course, they couldn’t be honest about that, we’re just a bunch of profiteers seeking to light the world on fire.
The parallels between:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Coast_%E2%80%93_West_Coast_hip_hop_rivalry
and the climate science community make this ironically an appropriate form of art in which to express the disagreement.

I’m not a climate scientist, but I can read, and I’d like to comment on a couple of things in the lyrics.
“We’re scientists, what we speak is true…” That would be Argument By Authority.
“Unlike Andrew Bolt our work is peer reviewed…” That would be By Each Other.
“Raisin sea levels twice by twice…” Just exactly where are your statistics that anything is out of the ordinary?
“Coz climate change means greater extremes…” Again, just exactly where?
Feedback on crack, permafrosts melting, methane release, burning letters, gravity is just a theory too, ad bloody nauseum. Made me nauseous, anyway.
God help Australian (pseudo)science, if this motley crew of brainwashed grant seekers is our future.

Climate Science thinks its primary problem is communication.
This is an attempt to communicate to people that climate scientists clearly have no idea how to communicate to.
The thing they consistently fail to realize is that the most effective form of communication a scientist can use is a scientific one. Lay all of the facts out in plain site and go into so much detail that everyone falls asleep and your point will be perfectly communicated.
A scientist attempting to communicate in any other fashion is at best suspicious and ineffective.

I agree with the final comments in the video. They are climate f-ing scientists, and they are f-ing the climate. But that doesn’t mean they are doing “real” science. A real scientist would not use everything BUT the scientific method to gain popular acceptance and try to get the world to “believe” in their Gaia cult.

My first impression was, of course, why are they all wearing sun-glasses, or ‘shades’.
The message must be… it’s getting warmer, and therefore brighter – good old Sun.
I was born well before the first ‘climate change’ prediction – that of much colder weather to come after the 70’s. It never happened, except for a few unfortunate folk, off and on.
It seems to me to be repeating everything that I have seen and heard, in that there will be climatic variation, which is fairly obvious, but one thing is troubling me… from where does that change, so-called AGW derive?

Vuk and Talbloke are not professional climate or solar scientists, as the people who did the video, they do their ‘pseudoscience’ for kiks. It is lot of fun, but don’t discard all other amateurs, very often they come with small nuggets that help science move forward. Neither Vuk or Tallbloke take a cent from taxpayer for their efforts, however often and much ridiculed by esteemed doc S.
As for Vuk, he is an ex electronic engineer, currently enjoying fruits of years of hard work, and ‘pseudoscience’ is one of the hobbies, and isn’t concerned an iota if someone likes it or not.

Loved the ‘Hayek Vs Keynes video, far better than the ‘climate science’ effort ripoff.
You have a slow flat tyre, what do you do?
The keynes method is to ignore the puncture and inflate the tyre and keep inflating it.
The Hayek method is to deflate the tyre, take the wheel off and fix the puncture and only then inflate the tyre again, more difficult and takes longer but in the long term it is the only way to fix the problem.
————–
Meanwhile back at the ranch. Those young ‘climate scientists’ have careers and grants and tenure to think about, homes and mortgages and bills and all that comes with choosing a career, no climate Armageddon no jobs no career no tenure no car no holidays no jet ski. A sudden massive inflation in ‘climate science’ careers in recent years and the simple fact that turkeys do not vote for thanksgiving. A great many people have a great deal invested in perpetuating the man made climate Armageddon, too much to lose.
Lets suppose that the CAGW theory came crashing down tomorrow, new information comes to light that finally puts the CAGW theory six feet under, dead and buried. Just what would happen to the tens of thousands of people employed in ‘climate science’? Grant cash drying up, departments closing and staff laid off, like an army after a big war, it would be downsize city Arizona for lots and lots of young ‘climate scientists’ with worthless qualifications nobody requires anymore. The people in that video know it, they know it all too well. Their careers on the line and what else is out there for them? The lucky few might try teaching or some other line but for most it will be back into the employment line.
The boom and the bust, for a whole generation of ‘climate scientists’ who jumped aboard the gravy train when it seemed the planet was in mortal danger and they were the last best hope yadda yadda yadda, bright eyed and looking at regular wages doing what they thought was a valuable job. Like the Tommies who went over the top at the Somme, they were cheered and celebrated at the time and forgotten and left to rot straight after. Todays heroes, tomorrows cast offs.
A great many people have too much to lose, they have too much invested in CAGW and only when they start appearing in the employment lines looking for the jobs that the CAGW fraud has destroyed by the millions will they have some kind of proper perspective forced upon them. While the gravy train is running they will be OK, when not if but when the train they are clinging on to hits the buffers then a lot of those very same people on that video will be forced to look upon the reality their CAGW fraud has inflicted on the millions who will be standing in those same employment lines, an icy cold shower of cold hard reality coming their way. Unemployment is an absolute and utter bitch, you dont know what a bitch until you yourself happens to be in that line. The young people in that video are part of the cause for the unemployment we are seeing, they laugh and giggle now because they are young and they have jobs but one day, one cold winter day will come when they stand in that line and feel what millions of others have felt then their enthusiasm will wilt and die very quickly indeed.

This video can have far reaching impact on youtube and beyond. We need young, talented people on our side of the debate. The science has to be sold like a brand, I fear. Oh, and one very telling thing in that rap. Look at the “feedbacks” they mention. Methane, permafrost, burning biomass.
The feedback that they didn’t mention – yet the only positive feedback that is necessary for the IPCC catastrophe claims – is water vapor feedback.
They know, deep in their rotten hearts, that mentioning water vapor feedback will not buy them any converts; as most lay persons do not consider water a dangerous greenhouse gas or H2O dangerous climate changing pollution.
The hypothetical water vapor feedback is their achilles heel; the feedback whose name must not be mentioned.

In reply to Ray and to Rob Potter.
In these examples, theory is being used with two distinct meanings:
a: an unproven assumption
b: a body of theorems presenting a consise, systematic view of a subject.
Meaning b is used when referring to the theory of universal gravitation, the theory of evolution, or the theory of relativity- Those sciences are well established. When someone objects that gravitation, evolution, and relativity are just THEORIES, they’re inorrectly using the word theory with the “a” meaining.
The “a” meaning would correctly refer to the theory of CAGW, which has NO systematic body of well established theorems- would AGW produce more or fewer hurricanes, drier or snowier winters, more or less precipitation, more or less wind?
CAGW predictions in such cases appear to be ephemeral, agreeing with current observations

Having seen other things that hungry beast do (I’m an aussie), it is obvious that they are pro AGW. In another piece they referred to both skeptics and deniers in the space of 2 minutes. The only logical conclusion it that this is also supposed to be pro AGW, although how I am not sure. Can’t believe that is what our Tax Payer funded TV propaganda machine is producing.
It you weren’t told it was real… you would actually think it was created by the “Deniers/Realists” as a satire against “Climate Scientists” but the sad part is, they did it to themselves.
Much like the 10:10 video, the whole “do it cause I say” is just so insulting that I think people are starting to wake up.
If the “Deniers/Realists” can produce figures and ask for debate, why can’t the “Climate Scientists” rise and produce their data, debate their results…. because sadly they have none.
I think alot of Deniers/Reslists were Luke Warmists early 2000, as the data was supporting a theory (however it was only a snapshot) so now over the last 10 years we have seen the rest of the data and have made the conclusion that it was indeed cyclic and “Move on nothing to see here”. However those who have made a career/industry off this “theory” are trying their hardest to keep it going.
The biggest laugh was when American (and sadly Australian) government keep talking about Climate Changes = Jobs….. errr…. that wasn’t the point…. Climate Change was meant to mean disaster (loss of cities, deaths by increases extreme weather, droughts etc), now it seems the only “spin” they can put on it is “increasing” the jobs and economy. There is another way to do that right…. run the country with a lightweight governing body, not run it as a controlling socialist motherland.

Ummm . . . comparing climate science to gravity . . . Right.
Anytime you find someone trying to compare the certainty of their pet theory to gravity, you know they are trying to hitch a ride on the coat tails of real science.
To be sure, we don’t know everything about gravity, but we do know enough to calculate its effects out to many decimals, and millions of events all around us every single day confirm its validity. To compare climate science (which has no definitive calculable constant and which has yet to make any meaningful prediction) to gravity is just ludicrous.

One has to wonder how some of them obtained their degrees. Going by the names and qualifications I note some are not scientists and some come from second rate institutions. People have been known to buy degrees. An Australian Judge (Einfeld), who was jailed for perjury over a traffic infringement (claimed a deceased person was driving), bought a PhD in USA for $10,000. I heard an Australian government minister say that her party’s aim was to get every young person through to tertiary education. Lowering the standard is the only way that can be achieved. All ready there are university students that can not write a decent report and have atrocious spelling. Next it will be claimed that a person is literate if they can put an “X” somewhere on a form.
I may be old fashioned but when I went to university only 3% of the population qualified to enter university, only 1.5% completed a degree and a PhD was rare and highly respected.

D. King,
What’s even funnier than the Trololo dude is that with all those power outages (caused by capitalist saboteurs, of course) it was hard to cook a meal on the nifty new electric elements so, out came the old coal-burning stoves with flues sticking out of apartment windows. Coal was in short supply (the capitalists, again), but there was plenty of trash, tons of printed propaganda, all those free textbooks, loafs of subsidized bread, park benches, the neighbour’s fence, etc. The savings from cutting down on electricity went up in smoke as we burned half the darn country to fry our eggs.

May 11, 2011 6:43 pm

They use lots of logical fallacies, take one for example:
“The Green house effect is just a theory sucker (Alan Jones)
Yeah so is gravity float away muther f**cker”
Well gravity has actual evidence and experiments that can be tested. There is NO valid comparison between gravity and the CO2 Climate Doomsday claims. Gravity can easily be tested, while the Catastrophic AGW hypothesis can’t be. Thus the logical fallacy in attempting to compare them and getting people to “believe” that CAGW is real just because gravity is real. It’s an anti-scientific argument that violates the principles of science and that attempts to do away with the requirements of climate scientists from following the scientific method. Clearly the video shows that these people who made it do NOT comprehend the scientific method and the right, no the necessity, of their pet hypothesis to be challenged by those who wish to do so. The lyrics of their video rap song clearly show them attempting to be exempt from the requirements of the scientific method. Major FAIL on their part, they wouldn’t pass a grade ten high school science class on the philosophy of science and the scientific method as a result.
Please provide experiments that can confirm the alleged GHG hypothesis? What? Silence… I’ve asked a Professor Emeritus of Physics at a major US university for any experiments that could be done to confirm this and all I got was: silence. No evidence provided… just assertions. Look even if it’s is real asserting it isn’t enough in science, you must actually PROVE it with experiments that can be independently verified. I still am waiting for any experiments that can be done to validate the GHG hypothesis and quantify it’s effects in the real atmosphere.
‎”Nullis in verba. Take no one’s word for it.” – Motto of the Royal Society
Science is empirical. Knowing the answer means nothing. Testing your knowledge means everything./b>” – Lawrence Krauss
I challenge every alleged climate scientist in the above video to take the Climate Science Challenge and prove to me that your CO2 Climate Doomsday Claims are valid and not just the fearful prognostications of your CO2 doomsday cult making use of digital entrails and simulated crystal balls peering into impossible to happen modeled futures.
Prove that you’re not just modern day Nostradamuses:
I challenge everyone who believes the world is in danger from “climate change” to take The Pro AGW Hypothesis Challenge: Present a clearly written statement of your alleged alarmist AGW hypotheses along with all the alleged scientific claims made and any hard evidence that supports those claims, provide all data to support your claims (all raw data and all manipulated data including the reasons for the manipulations), plus mention all means to verify preferably by experiment the claims, and all means by which they would be refuted. Show your work or the work of others in full detail.

Firstly, I am assuming these are real students/scientists? In which case, I dispair at their lack of actual ‘real’ world knowledge. Any of us who were students will no doubt remember that we were somewhat opinionated and believed we were ‘right’, especially in the early years of a career ?
Hence, whilst I am not one to wish that student activity remains as a blight on someones record – I feel quite strongly that such a production should be carefully preserved for posterity – it may serve as a suitable lesson for others in the future. Even moreso, if as expected, the whole AGW issue is proven to be the sham we all expect! Perhaps in another 5 or 10 years time, we can expect an apologetic rap from these same folks?

But if they were just goofing and blowing off steam with good old fashioned irony, that was good (laughing with them).
Whatever professional disagreements there are, they have a point that they are actual scientists and went to school for a long time to study climate. The whole climate change/AGW/whatever it is today debate has been hijacked by non-scientists of all stripes. Politicians, media types, corporations trying to sell solutions, corporations trying to avoid having taxes raised, people who wish to convert others to their world view, etc. If the people who invested years of their precious life to studying climate in a formal capacity wish to point that out, they have earned that right. IMHO.
But of course I came down against the Consensus on the Richard Glover debate, one of the few who thought HE was being satirical.

There must be something lost in translation here. Are you suggesting that the posters at WUWT are just as “defamatory” as the rap video? The defaming that goes on here can be fairly juicy, I’ll admit, but most of it is directed at people who have been caught lying to the public while on the public dollar. What words of defaming are too harsh for public servants who steal from you while lying? Does holding the moral high ground mean issuing rulings on what is scientific truth from the ivory tower while calling those who question you “deniers” in reference to holocaust deniers?? Are those people who ask questions of the pampered and well-travelled monks on the government dole held to a higher standard than the monks themselves? Yes, I’m sure in the past I’ve posted some rather mean things here about various personalities in the climate “science” community, but when you make yourself a target by accepting public money and then failing in your charge, you deserve all the mud you get.

You would NEVER EVER get away with this in Australia or Canada or Britain for that matter. Bring it on and let the real scientists settle the score by dragging all of them to court – but sadly not in your country – land of free wanton speech and so much crock whilst the great warming continues.

You’re only reinforcing my own appreciation for my country. The base freedom of speech in this country, carried now into the internet on principle, is what is saving mankind from economic-self-destruction in a keynesian-end-game. Without that freedom, no one would question for so long why the emperor is naked.
Your post reeks of no-argument whining while down 10 points with 0:02 on the clock.

Keith G says: “The whole climate change/AGW/whatever it is today debate has been hijacked by non-scientists of all stripes….If the people who invested years of their precious life to studying climate in a formal capacity wish to point that out, they have earned that right. IMHO.” (May 12, 2011 at 4:27 am)
Hi , Keith, as virtual homes go, this isn’t a bad one and it’s pretty close to the real thing; loud, contentious and messy. I thought I saw a couple of chaps here posting from Japan, so you might stick around and maybe add you location at the bottom of every post. Good luck with that.
As to your contentions above, the climate issue wasn’t “high-jacked” by non-scientists; if you look at its history, you’ll see that the idea of CAGW grew and was promoted mainly by non-scientists, namely government bureacrats, enviro activists, the left, special commercial interests and, of course, the ever-rapatious UN. Billions in funding and lucrative research grants created the new field of climatology which began with pre-determined assumptions before the data was even properly looked at. That should worry anyone who claims to promote science.
This never was, and is not now, a battle between science and non-science, as some Warmists pretend. Rather, it’s a fight between an establishment which claims exclusive rights to a new discipline and others from related disciplines which, as is the scientific norm, engage in critiques. Climatology, though, has set itself up …with help of special interests…as an untouchable discipline, one above all others, and as a consequence of its perceived special status, feels free to routinely violate the ideals and norms of science. Unchallenged power invariably corrupts.
The music video you think of as somewhat cute, actually serves as an in-a-nutshell illustration of the bad science practiced by the Warmist camp; unproven claims, crude appeals to authority, foul bullying and cartoonish demonization of the opposition. There is nothing novel about it; tyranical regimes the world over have been churning out such “cute” propaganda aimed at youth for as long as there have been tyrannical regimes.
By and large, the skeptic community is not fighting science itself, but bad science, or pseudo-science. By now we should know that scientists and their institutions are not immune from errors, political pressure and corruption or, even, as history has shown so many times, criminal and horrifying acts of savagery. Remember eugenics, racial anthropology, Nazi medical researchers and Lysenkoism.
As you will witness in the months and years to come, the Warmist camp is feeling the heat not from global temperatures, but from its own rapidly declining ability to control the message and to command the huge resources it became quite accustomed to. It will apply cuteness or nastiness as the situation calls for. Unable to prove its case in a fair and open scientific forum, Warmism –like other messianic movements before it– defaults to fear-mongering, insults, endless repetitions, obscurantism, begging for intervention, special appeals, threats, and crude propagandizing. As such things usually work themselves out, there will be lot of noise and even some danger before the inevitable crash. Then, we’ll all move on, hopefully having learned some important lessons.

Every good religion needs a hymn to sing. Besides every good thing I learned in this life of mine, has come from a song in my youth. If I may quote Guns N’ Roses, “Every rose has it’s thorn. Just like every night has it’s dawn. Just like every Carbon leaves a sad, black stain.”

The Australian blogger Professor Bunyip has a post on these fools that tells you a little more about a few of them, including a climegate email that says it all about how the climate crooks look out for each other..

Excellent link.
I agree with Jeremy…OUCH.
From the link:
“…And pity, too, about those pesky Climategate emails, because one particular sequence of correspondence provides a glimpse of the world in which another academic rapper, Victoria University’s Prof. Roger N. Jones (the little bald fellow below and at 1:05 in the video), does business.
Dear Mike,
….. I should perhaps explain my delicate position in all this. As a retired CSIRO person I have somewhat more independence than before, and perhaps a reduced sense of vested interest in CSIRO, but I am still closely in touch and supportive of what CAR is doing. Also, I have a son who is now a leading staff member of WWF in Australia and who is naturally well informed on climate change issues. Moreover, Michael Rae, who is their local climate change staffer, is a member of the CSIRO sector advisory committee (along with some industry people as well) and well known to me. So I anticipated questions from WWF Australia, and from the media later when the scenarios are released, regarding the scenarios. I did not want to be in the position of feeling the need to seriously question in public their presentation or interpretation. You have allayed my fears on that score, so that is great.”
Hello…oooo, we can see you!

Let’s not be too critical. After all, this song must have been peer reviewed before release, right?
I just wonder what the carbon footprint was to film the video. Lot’s of 100+ watt bulbs, burning globes, speaker racks. Looks like they are willing to do whatever it takes to get their precious hockey stick.

Send your kid to college nowadays, and have them graduate an uncivilized barbarian. The long march through the institutions is complete and and the brainwashing is in full swing. Look at the live f@cksaw demo at Northwestern. The universities need a huge housecleaning, or we can kiss western civilization goodbye.

Oh, and what was with that tragic, old loser Prof. Roger N Jones doing? Like anybody wants to see some balding troll glaring ominously at them through the camera. Here’s a tip, Gen Y is about everything pretty, attractive, new and branded – this video hit none of those targets.
Who exactly did they model their rapping on, Will Smith and Vanilla Ice?

Okay, so i’m a non-scientist hijacker; and can the actual climate scientists now show their observational evidence for the tropospheric hotspot so we can finally settle the argument if they’re so darn sure they’re right.
Oh, they can’t? Sorry, didn’t want to cause any inconvenience…

They claim to be climate scientists, but if they are, then they are mis-using the term scientist. They sure are ignorant about what science is. I would say that is a good showing from the Al Gore warmist camp – showing ignorance over intelligence.
I am not a climate scientist, but I am a scientist. And they are no scientists.

” Global Warming is just a theory.”
“So is Gravity… ”
Zero out of two: As several have already observed, Gravity is a law.
AGW is just a hypothesis.
So that’s an example of rap. It’ll never replace skiffle.

It’s a bit rich to call these entertainers scientists; as far I can determine, many of them are not much more than over-credentialed data processors, with an inadequate grasp of statistics, collating such silly things as the average height of an entire, continually varying ocean within fractions of a millimetre. An equivalent would be of extracting sunshine from cucumbers at several removes: they could compile averages of the utility of datasets of the potential sunshine/cucubert-extraction units, and publish them in peer-reviewed journals.
I expect to hear any day that nutritionists, instead of trying to improve knowledge or nutrition, are gathering an index of the averages of digestive index units (DIU), in order to tell us whether the mean digestion within various segments of the population is declining as obesity rates increase. (I may say in passing, if I may make a jocatio, that my DIU has been stable for a long while.)
Still, it’s a measure of how wealthy and advanced the modern industrial countries are that, instead of making or inventing or developing things, we have so many young wits receiving copious funds for measuring intangibles and then boasting thereof.

This seems to be produced by my sons’ university—and just confirms our growing realisations about climate scientists.
Trouble is, in spite of all the challenges to the ‘settled science’—the CRU emails etc—our disaster of a minority Australian Labor government is about to introduce a carbon tax as a prelude to an Emissions Trading Scheme—and the tiny, but drunk with power Greens party, that will hold the balance of power post-July , and with it the ability to fell the government—– is demanding not only that coal-fired power stations be shut down, with nothing to take their place, but that we end the export of coal.
Such is the world of post-normal science and almost every institution , especially the media, completely infiltrated and dominated by the Left.

I think a parody is in order. Perhaps something like this…
We’re real climate scientists and here’s a clue!
Every paper we write passes peer review!
Here’s one from the 90s by our man Mann,
Shows no global warming till Big Oil’s scam!
If you want to survive, then back up the truck.
What’s that? Mann’s screwed up the stats? Awwww F*ck!
Doesn’t really matter, cuz we’ve got a spare,
another peered paper, the stick’s really there!
Obama’s on board and they’re channeling Reagan,
Ha! Next stop’s nirvana through copenhagen,
Shove it deniers, you’re all outa luck!
What’s that? On all those web sites? Awwwww F*ck!
Okay, hiding data might look like a stink,
But even Einstein used disappearing ink,
We’re climate scientists and we’re here to say,
All scholars hide data that don’t go their way.
Find one to dispute us, go ahead rotsa ruck!
What’s that? A druggie from Berkeley? Awwwwww F*ck!

So Prof Roger N. Jones is a Research Fellow at the “Centre for Strategic Economic Studies (not a climate scientist), however not long after this you see him in the video mouthing “I’m a climate scientist”. What stupid liars these morons are. If you’re going to lie, at least make it so that your lie can’t be detected by your own contradictions in the same video!
Also many of the people at the beginning are identified as being from the “Climate Change Research Centre”, so their position, by definition of their very job, must be that of a global warmist. Also, as many have already pointed out, their careers depend on the dogma of AGW being accepted.

Perhaps the appropriate vehicle to respond to rap music is classic ’70s rock. With revised lyrics suitable for young scientists, and sans profanity. I give you “Carbon in the Sky”:

Alas, I can’t sing, or play an instrument, or make a YouTube video. Maybe M4GW can take up the project.
