Department of Homeland Security goes off the deep end – now plans to battle "climate change" in addition to terrorists

Not content to keep to the terrorism prevention mission for which they were founded, DHS’s Janet Napolitano now plans to battle a religious war of “climatic jihad”.  Here’s what happened the last time Washington DC took on weather in February 2010 (but not climate). The capital was shut down of course. Now that’s “environmental justice”. Look for pat downs at airports soon for those carrying concealed carbonated beverages.

From CNS News.

Napolitano Says DHS to Begin Battling Climate Change as Homeland Security Issue

Friday, December 17, 2010

By J. Brady Howell

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr)

(CNSNews.com) – At an all-day White House conference on “environmental justice,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that her department is creating a new task force to battle the effects of climate change on domestic security operations.

Speaking at the first White House Forum on Environmental Justice on Thursday, Napolitano discussed the initial findings of the department’s recently created “Climate Change and Adaptation Task Force.”

Napolitano explained that the task force was charged with “identifying and assessing the impact that climate change could have on the missions and operations of the Department of Homeland Security.”

According to the former Arizona governor, the task force would address specific questions, including:

“How will FEMA work with state and local partners to plan for increased flooding or wildfire or hurricane activity that is more serious than we’ve seen before? What assistance can the Coast Guard bring to bear to assist remote villages in, for example, Alaska which already have been negatively affected by changes up in the Arctic?”

The findings from the Homeland Security Department (DHS) also asked: “(H)ow can we focus on how climate change is going to affect our rural citizenry including those who live along our borders both northern and southern?”

The conference did not define “environmental justice,” and the only reference to the task force that can be found is on the DHS Web site. The June 2010 Department of Homeland Security Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan states “climate change has the potential to accelerate and intensify extreme weather events which threaten the nation’s sustainability and security.”

How will FEMA work with state and local partners to plan for increased flooding or wildfire or hurricane activity
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano had best get the plans set for increased hurricane activity since we are experiencing about zero landfalls per year these days.

No, the only thing threatening all of our nations’ sustainability and security is the sorry bunch of corrupt, self-loathing Leftist politicians and bureaucrats determined to take the once-free nations down by any means. Right now they are succeeding, and a lot of well-meaning-but-naive-to-the-point-of-childlike people are buying this bullshit.

Perhaps the 70,000 TSA team could each take a tub of snow to work – this might solve the snow drift problem.
(I’m assuming that they are allowed to take their tubs home, and (obviously) that the body scanners could melt the snow).
And in reciprocation, I am sure that the snow plow operators could find a terrorist or two. (Well, a few more than the TSA, anyway).
This all seems very logical and efficient.
Next problem.

For ANYONE in the DHS (let alone the Secretary) to be spending even 10 minutes on CAGW. . . oops: Climate Change. . . oops: Climate Disruption (or whatever term the true belivers come up with after Europe and N.A. are (probably) totally snowed under and frozen this winter); is dereliction of duty in the extreme. Homeland security seem to be engaged in empire building. In addition to their new climate change responsibilities they have also recently decided to become copyright police, seizing and shutting down a bunch of websites (without judicial due process). And they are also the bunch that are after Assange (not much due process there either).
This is a very dangerous trend. To aid their terrorist seeking mandate homeland security operate under much less legal constraint than for example the FBI. They appear to be willing and able to step around due process and the judiciary. And they have borderline fascist nutcases like Leiberman providing oversight.
I wouldn’t be surprised if their next uniform came with a brown shirt.

I’m glad to know that DHS has completed all their planning and training for weather emergencies, terror bombers and the like, so they can now move on to planning for climate change. What are they going to do about extreme weather? Are they going to make warmer coats, build more snow plows, and grow short season crops? Maybe they are going to regulate how much snow can fall from the sky and how much water can be put in a river?
It seems the free market is the best weapon we have against climate change. When the need for new products arise, someone will appear who will make them. And that is all that climate change means. Our spending priorities will change as our environment changes.
Considering that extreme weather has been recorded for millenniums, why are we surprised that it is ongoing? Look at all the peat bogs under the Arctic permafrost. How do they think the peat got there? Look at the various elevations of coast lines in Great Britain. How did the coast lines change so drastically in huge jumps?
Look at all the flooded ancient cities and civilizations off the coasts of all the continents. Now that is climate change.
Unless DHS has never heard of FEMA, I can’t imagine why they would need a special task force for dealing with such an ancient and obvious fact of life.

I can only come to one of two conclusions. Either this administration thinks very little of the citizens they are sworn to protect, or they’re racists that don’t consider our friends to the south adequate for the purposes of groping. They apparently assume criminal intent from their own countrymen before others. If having one’s own opinion and conclusions regarding climate change is criminalized, then maybe they’re right.

Currently there is according to both the GAO and DHS an estimated 12 million illegals in the U.S. That means 12 million kg of CO2 is being produced each day….creating a clear and present danger to our climate.

Napolitano explained that the task force was charged with “identifying and assessing the impact that climate change could have on the missions and operations of the Department of Homeland Security.”
Well, one impact runaway global warming will have on Homeland Security is that airport inspections will be faster. It’ll be so hot that everyone will travel in their skivvies and there’ll be no need for metal detectors or pat-downs ;o)
On the other hand, if we head into another ice age, air travel will slow to a crawl as everyone will be in long underwear, wearing several sweaters, and bundled up in greatcoats and woolen scarves. Watch out for terrorists hidden between layers of clothing.
There. That saved the task force a lot of time. Meeting adjourned. They can all go home now.

It’s not like those nasty skeptics haven’t been making some pretty serious allegations, and one would think these good scientists would be itching to file suit, but nada.
Gee, I wonder why… Might have something to do with the rules of evidence? Like you have to prove the allegations are false? That might tend to cause blow-back methinks. Perhaps the Department of Homegrown Insecurity would be better used investigating climatologists, but that’s just dreamin.

What will FEMA do in the case, that the weather hampers their operations?
Lets see now,…..
Page One of Janets Bumper Book of U.N Field Operations – now with 50% more turnkey/stepwise counter insurgency plans. (Bonus fold out map of North America, formerly ‘United States of…’, now Economic Zone 4.1)
F = Forget the victims. (What about the opportunities for cheap real estate? Gulf anyone?)
E = Engineer a PR response that looks good but achieves nothing. (Wait a few days, no need to rush in)
M = Massage local Pork Barrel politics to ease the way for disaster capitalism.
A = Aggravate the suffering by calling survivors “Refugees”, detain and then shoot them. (Did we mention the National Guard will counter this insurgency, cos, you know people with no homes, no food and no water compare favourably with the Taliban. )
So if it snows so much the power goes out and you run out of food and heating oil, and you get a knock at the front door from some folks dressed like Blackwater/XE, sporting FEMA day-glo black vest,…please, I beg you,…don’t answer it.

I wonder what well-connected lobbyist influenced the DHS’s decision this time around? If you do some research, you’ll see the only reason airports have full-body scanners is because L-3 Communications has well-connected lobbyist.

Some say this country is turning into socialism or fascism. I disagree. I believe it is turning into a plutarchy, which is a combination oligarchy and plutocracy. In an oligarchy, rule is by the privileged few and plutocracy is rule by the wealthy, which in this case is big corporations. L-3 Communications is a prime example of how the big corporations rule. Also recently the DHS shut down several websites, most of which related to illegal file sharing such as through Bit Torrent. How is illegal file sharing a national security risk? It isn’t. But the movie and music industry hate such websites and the MPAA and RIAA has powerful lobbyist. (Sidebar: you should always pay for your music and movies; I do not condone illegal file sharing.) Corporations don’t lobby just to get a tax credit. They do it because it works. So if the DHS keeps expanding its arms, I must wonder what lobbyist bribe is the DHS listening to now.
How much longer until the DHS shuts down websites like this one because it offends a big business or one of the privileged few? You have to wonder.

The concept of environmental justice has been around for a decade. Until now it’s been a conspiracy of “civil rights” activists with predatory lawyers, to sue cities and companies for leaving dirty industrial sites in slum areas. The net effect (along with millions for the lawyers) has been to forbid new industrial development in slum areas, thus forbidding employment for poor people. None of this is “unanticipated consequences”, all is part of the plan.
Now we have Heimatssicherheitsdienst expanding the concept to service the whole country. And I do mean service in the cattle-breeding sense, not serve.

Napolitano is not going to battle climate change. She is taking the projected impacts of global warming into account in providing for the nation’s security.
If one accepts that natural disasters and climate refugees will impact the people of the US in years to come, Homeland Security and specifically FEMA , should take that into account in their planning.

This move by DHS makes perfect sense in government bureaucracies. DHS has not yet found an effective source of external revenue. Stopping and arresting illegal aliens doesn’t work. You cannot extract any fines from them because they have no money. Molesting children at the airport may be entertaining, but that does not bring in any revenue, nor does the petty pilferage of travelers trinkets by their cohorts while the TSA gropes the travelers.
This is a move to go for the big money of carbon taxes. They are not likely to win this as the EPA has been staking out this territory. But they are specializing in travelers who have money, so the coming interstate highway inspections will offer all types of opportunities for fees, licenses, and fines; especially if they can attach something to fuel costs. What they really need is a spectacular vehicle bombing to create a crisis that only they can “fix.” This will give them an excuse for the vehicle inspections with licenses and fees to be added after about 1-2 years.

Department of Homeland Security .. now plans to battle “climate change” in addition to terrorists” – Now that makes a lot of sense. Terrorists can be dealt with by off duty hot-dog vendors and facebook users but a 0.7 degree temp rise in 100 years? .. that’s scary – that obviously requires big money, guns and missiles.

If BigSis has the authority to fight climate change then she can seize property, right? Your beach house was blown away by a hurricane and, now, BS will seize your property. For your own protection. Because climate change has made it uninhabitable. Blah blah…blah.

I had to go to LA late last week. In the course of the trip, I had to undergo a rapid climate change of nearly 10F. Fortunately, it seems that I was able to adapt and did not need to call in DHS. It could be that the problems have a delayed onset, but so far, I have suffered no ill effects. Before reading this press release, I was unaware of just how lucky I am to have adapted — good genes I guess. In anycase, its comforting to know that DHS stands ready to assist others who are less able to adapt.

December 20, 2010 6:59 pm

Nasty, although not that too unexpected. Far easier to be seen ‘winning’ on climate terrorism than real terrorism – as we well know the climate figures can be made at first glance to show whatever is needed, all the motivation is there..

The impact of the first and second laws is that DHS is treading on the turf of the EPA.

Napolitano is not going to battle climate change. She is taking the projected impacts of global warming into account in providing for the nation’s security.
If one accepts that natural disasters and climate refugees will impact the people of the US in years to come, Homeland Security and specifically FEMA , should take that into account in their planning.

The climate scenarios which would overlap with any security issues would, I think, specifically be “climate conflicts” over water, food, and energy shortages. They also project refugee populations, as well as a supposed increase in frequency and intensity of natural disasters.
“Climate conflicts” and “climate change response” means training the Coast Guard in actions to control rioting, which would be brought about by resource shortages, as far as I can see. At least it has been spoken of in those terms already in an Australian Defense White Paper.
It is interesting how these pure white doves of the left, who normally do not have a hawkish bone in their bodies, suddenly find their inner hawk when it is a question of directing security efforts at our own population.

The sinking Alaskan Arctic villages yet another scam (what a surprise). The North Slope and the Northwestern part of the state is for the most part pretty flat where it meets the sea. There are a number of villages near the water – which is where the food and boats are (whale, seal, walrus hunting). The closer to the water you are, the less work it takes to drag the food home.
If there is nothing much to stop either the wind or the seas in a storm, the storms will rearrange the coastline on a continual basis – which they do. Throw into the mix large chunks of ice (late season floes) getting moved around by the wind, and the villages are in continuous risk. It doesn’t have anything to do with global warming. It has everything to do with where and what they build coastal villages on. You see the same action on the those that choose to build on barrier islands on the US Gulf of Mexico, as the buildings get lawnmowed by hurricanes on a semi regular basis. It’s the first rule of Real Estate: Location; Location; Location.
Merry Christmas to one and all from Anchorage, where we would welcome about 15 degrees F of manmade global warming so we could get above 20 once in a while this winter. Skiing at zero F or low single digits is more work than fun. Cheers –

1. When it’s cold outside, wear a hat, a pair of mitts or gloves, a warm jacket would be wise and some winter boots…LL Bean I believe has all these items for sale.
2. When it’s hot out, wear appropriate “Summer wear” Sandals, shorts, Tee shirts and of course sunscreen
3. If anyone is unfortunately caught wearing the wrong clothing for the weather, I recommend remaining in the company vehicle and turning on the heat and or A/C relavent to the outside air temperature
