Friday Funny #2

Oh this is rare, two Friday Funnies. This one is still rooted in the same humor sources as the new cartoon by Josh posted here.

Now you see it…94,910 people on board (last night ~11:30PM PST)

Now you don’t…73,010 people on board (today ~9AM PST)

And those two guys look so happy about “Liftshare week”, but I digress.

It seems that there was a quality control problem, which is what I’ve always said is the biggest issue in climate science.  [UPDATE: They definitely had to purge some 20K+ in people numbers. This is confirmed independently here by Richard North of the EU Referendum blog in the UK, who noticed well before I did.]

When I can be signed up, along with Lord Monckton and James Delingpole (see the top image) along with Osama Bin Laden, Elvis Presley, the late Michael Crichton, and Nessie the Loch Ness Monster, you know you’ve got a QC problem.

Someone should tell those nutters that cutting too much CO2 means oxygen, the stuff you breath to stay alive, will get cut in the long run.
This 10:10 stuff seems to be a mutual suicide plan. I certainly ain’t joining.

I think the 73k number is for the UK only when you pull up a UK news story (http://www.1010global.org/uk/2010/10/jadore-1010-paris), the main global page is showing over 103k (http://www.1010global.org/).

And Warmists are known for making brazen, unfounded statements.
The 10:10 logo seems to be ‘The Age of Stupid’.
My bet is that phrase will come back to haunt them.

don’t be a t’ol. And disregarding the obvious fact of trying to poke fun at “Lukewarmers, skeptics and deniers” for not being fun, but what fun is it to sign up to something you have a right to sign up to but would be deleted for doing just so because some hobnob t’ol has decided by presumption you wouldn’t sign up to something like it?
Pointing out that whomever can sign up who ever, now that’s poking fun at someone’s lack of keeping their own system in order. :p

With all this angst being generated by the Warmists 10/10 campaigne, I think us sceptics should start an 11/11/11 event to promote the love of Real Science.
Perhaps 11 November could be a day for sensible discourse about the problems inherent in predicting weather/climate in pubs around the world, with an 11 minute ‘Hug A Warmistathon’ starting at 11.00 🙂
Seeing Al Gore being hugged by Anthony Watts would make my day… 🙂

Sorry to spoil the party, but we in the UK (and folks elsewhere) already have one of those, and it is nothing funny.
This is Remembrance Day. It is a commemoration of those who have died in times of war.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Traditionally marked by a 2 minutes silence at 11:00am and by the wearing of poppies.
The time and date derive from the ending of the First World War.

On the lighter side, I’m all for John Graham-Cumming’s idea of making 10/10/10 the ultimate answer day, since 101010 binary is 42 in decimal. Well to a challenge another one :
“You are cordially invited to make a single verifable and quantitative prediction of the so called AGW theory. Preferably in the timeframe of our lives. You are also cordially invited to make up your mind if the AGW theory predicts more huricanes or less hurricanes . Actually the prediction of the number of hurricanes may be a good test. As long as no precise, verifiable prediction is made, this is no science, it is just tongue flapping.”

Nope, it’s pure arrogance on 10:10’s part – implying that some sceptics are not as sceptical as they make out – or just another skirmish in the escalating battle for the mob’s minds by the 10:10 elites.
And it’s the younger generation who are being targetted – the generation who would only find the facts of World War II by going to a library (if they were taught how to read) or asking their uncool elders.

My, didn’t the Virginia AG cite Wegman six times in his Appendix B? Hmm…
Now, this in no way denigrates his finding that the error (not fraud) that Mann made in his initial analysis technique was wrong (and it was, as even Mann admitted in the Climategate emails http://www.eastangliaemails.com/emails.php?eid=591&filename=1132094873.txt). The important point is, as shown in Wahl and Ammann (2007), that it didn’t make any difference to the conclusions. It does however speak to the level of overall scholarship in the report.

If Ireland wasn’t spending €10billion on wind turbines and however many billions the transmission lines will cost we’d be in a much better predicament. Especially since the nearby Scottish windmills are running at half the capacity the industry claimed. Incidentally, we’ve spent more bailing out our incompetent banks in the last 3 years than we ever got in 30+ years of European subsidies.

Richard Tol
October 10, 2010 6:21 am

@Barry
The jump in numbers, first 20,000 down, now 20,000 up, is most likely due to duplication of names.
I signed up twice (first to check whether I can sign off — I cannot — and then to see whether they check for duplication — they did not at first, and then they did, and now they don’t again). Search for Richard Tol and you’ll find two.
The 20,000 duplicates reappeared after James Delingpole made fun of the drop in numbers.
The latest recruit is Feyd Rautha, nephew of Baron Harkonnen.

October 10, 2010 3:28 pm

Hi Richard,
The site checks for duplicate email addresses, not duplicate names. That’s because people can have the same name. There are other Richard Tols in the world.
Your name appears twice presumably because you signed up with two different email addresses. Either that, or because another Richard Tol signed up at a similar time. It’s difficult to tell the difference between these cases, but it seems reasonable to assume users wouldn’t sign up twice in quick succession using different email addresses.

Richard Tol
October 11, 2010 12:42 am

@Other Richard Tol
There are about five Richard Tols in the world, but only one who is interested in climate.
In this case, I signed up with two different email addresses. There were two Richard Tols in the system. Then the number dropped by 20,000 and there was only one Richard Tol in the system. Later the number rose again by 20,000 and there are again two Richard Tols in the system.
Last night, between 9:46 and 11:01 pm, 4 new people signed up and the numbers of signees increased by 105 people.

“Last night, between 9:46 and 11:01 pm, 4 new people signed up and the numbers of signees increased by 105 people.”
Where did you get 4 from? Not your screenshots…

UPDATE: They definitely had to purge some 20K+ in people numbers. This is confirmed independently here by Richard North of the EU Referendum blog in the UK, who noticed well before I did.

Richard North’s observation does not confirm your hypothesis. He makes the same observation as you. There are a number of possible reasons for this observation. Your hypothesis gives one. The observation doesn’t conflict with your hypothesis, but it certainly doesn’t confirm it.
You’re a scientist aren’t you? Is your scientific rigour really this poor?
