The other embarrassing AGW story this week

Of course, the big news this week had to do with the unbelievably vile and stupid video produced by the carbon reduction activist group 10:10 this week. But in its shadow, was another embarrassing news item the you’d think the green crowd would also want to denounce and distance from. Joe Romm and Bill McKibben have announced they detest the 10:10 video. Good for them, that’s the right thing to do, and I applaud them for doing it.

But Joe couldn’t resist his urges to get some licks in with his usual flaming rhetoric, making sure that his readers get reinforced with the message: 10:10 video bad, Watts bad. That’s not a surprise, as it is his standard predictable MO. Mr. Romm is as easy to forecast as DC summer weather; hot, muggy, with a chance of storms.

Due to the uproar over the 10:10 video, this story got rather buried in the climate news cycle. It is almost as embarrassing as the 10:10 video, because, well, who would want this guy to align with their cause?

An audio recording attributed to the al-Qaeda leader and broadcast on the internet yesterday expresses concern about the devastating floods in Pakistan and calls on Muslims to provide relief for the victims.”The number of victims caused by climate change is very big… bigger than the victims of wars,” says the recording.

If genuine, the recording would be Bin Laden’s first since March 25.

It was not clear when the tape was made, but Bin Laden congratulated Muslims on the holy fasting month of Ramadan which ended September 10.

“The catastrophe (in Pakistan) is very big and it is difficult to describe it,” the recording says.

“What we are facing… calls for generous souls and brave men to take serious and prompt action to provide relief for their Muslim brothers in Pakistan.”

The recording makes a series of recommendations to deal with climate changes namely preventive measures that should be taken by governments in the face of disasters.

=====================================================

Given the events of this week, do the proponents of AGW really want to have OSBL, a man who kills people for having a differing view than him, as an ally for their cause? Do they really want an ally with a world voice that confuses weather with climate?

Note and update: Some people misunderstood my intent, that’s my fault for not writing clearly in the first place, and I accept the criticism for that and offer my apology if I unduly offended anyone. This was simply a case of writing something, then realizing that people were seeing it completely differently than I intended. I’ve removed the lines above that caused the issue and added this clarification below:

In case somebody misunderstands, it should be clearly understood that it is not my intent to compare these AGW proponents to OSBL in any possible way. I only want to point out that like with the 10:10 fiasco, AGW proponents that don’t want this sort of bad publicity connected with their movement, IMO should distance themselves and their organizations from OSBL.

OSBL wants to disrupt western civilization at any cost. He’s very intelligent, and he kn0ws what a farce AGW really is, and what an economic disaster it will deliver if western governments implement expensive and unproductive climate related policies.
What better way to help us destroy ourselves than endorse the climate change fearmongering? It is fearmongering, and that’s what OSBL is best at.

You’ve got to hand it to Osama for being wily; he’s positioning his people for a piece of the BIG REAPPORTIONMENT.
The precursor of this was Obama’s apology tour and his constant support of the (wealthy) polluters reparations to the victims of climate change. Obama is ready to lead the rest of the Western World in paying for the shame of their wealth production. The dinner bell is ringing, and Osama is simply showing that he’s not bashful enough to lose his place at the feeding trough.

First reaction is to laugh but thinking closer about it…….
All crazed movements were popular at one time in their history. Eugenics was popular around the world for many years before it was finally used as a political tool and taken to it’s “logical end” (rather, one of many possible interpretations). Granted there could have been other ways as well but genocide was still the result and likely it was only a matter of time before some one else did it. History makes note of what hitler did, but often glosses over what other nations did before war broke out. Eugenics was a global, popular movement and continued to quietly influence policy well into the post war era.
What global climate alarmism needs right now is a single voice or nation to unite the bafoons like the ones that made the “no pressure” video into a true powerful, and calculated movement. Al Gore was supposed to be that person but as it turns out he has the leadership and political reflex talents of an egg plant when not under supervision of his handlers, so he is out.
Bin Laden is not the one to lead a holy war against global warming either. The reaction from alarmists will probably be dead silence. Actually I do still find it a little funny that some one is trying to keep the torch burning for al qaeda by playing the global warming card. Its pathetic.

Anthony, I’m trying to work out what sort of comment you expect from Romm etc.
“OSBL is a baddie, we don’t endorse his concerns about AGW”?
Well, that wouldn’t make sense as obviously Romm is concerned about AGW.
“OSBL is a baddie, we share his concerns about AGW, but we don’t endorse his terrorist attacks”?
Do they really need to say that? If they don’t make such a statement are sceptics going to suspect that they do endorse OSBL’s terrorism, or at best, that they are indifferent to such acts of terrorism?

PJB said it already, but it bears repeating. The pro-AGW crowd is packed full of attack dogs. That fact does not speak well for people who claim to be scientists. The chief character trait of the true scientist is humility. The late Richard Feynman is a good example. My comment was deleted.
The AGW folks are consumed by their zeal and certainty. They do not notice how unhinged they appear to ordinary citizens, and how easily they can cross into vile territory like the 10:10 film.
Labeling skeptics as “deniers” is only somewhat less virulent IMO than pressing a red button and blowing them up in a fantasy turned into film.

Sheesh, now I get jumped on for praising Bill and Joe for their denouncement of the 10:10 video, and saying take it a step farther? It’s an opinion, an idea, a suggestion, not a labeling. Why would anyone (except members of his Al Queda sect) NOT want to refute Bin Laden’s position if he agreed with them? I’m simply saying that while these two guys are denouncing bad acts like 10:10’s fiasco, they have a chance to raise themselves in the eyes of many by denouncing Bin Laden’s position, which confuses weather with climate.
If they did, I’d publicly thank them for doing so.

Yes, it seems to me more likely that OBL has been dead since 2001, and that this latest recording is fraudulent. Nine years?

Tom in Texas, Tats, and Tim: the conspiracy theory isn’t very likely. Occam’s razor should be used. In Osama’s vision of the the future has he would have it, he stands in front of a class of children and begins the lesson with a prayer. Upon noticing that some of the children are less than enthused with the prayer he has chosen, the produces a small box with a red button…
Osama’s ideology is identical to that expressed in the 10:10 video, only the “religion” is different. Those in the warmist community who have distanced themselves from the 10:10 video should rightly be asked to do the same with Osama.

ShrNfr
October 2, 2010 8:22 pm

Fwiw, the chances of Bin Laden being alive are minor at best. He required weekly kidney dialysis and this is not something that comes easy in the tribal zone of Pakistan. Further, the release of only tape recordings without any video for many years now point to a guy who is good with a computer and another guy who is no longer among the living. AQ was targeting the House of Saud. No more, no less. Guilt by association to the moonbats with 1010 really does not make AQ any greener than Australia after the locusts were done with it. Hitler was a vegetarian with one testicle. That does not make vegetarians Nazis or people with one testicle Nazis. The may be, but that is the extent. Its an orthogonal axis.

Why don’t you take a look at the collapse of WTC7, read the NIST report that states the building fell at FREEFALL speed for at least a second… due to a few small fires. Put those analytical minds of yours to work on THAT one.
You talk about the possibility of “eco-fascism” if the greens get their way, guess what guys? Your a little bit behind the times. The governments of the west have been fascist for the past ten years, corporate monopolies in bed with politicians (in agriculture, the pharmacuetical industry, media, energy, retail, healthcare, financial sector), small business crushed by regulations, the big guys above the law. Foriegn adventurism and domestic police states all in the name of fighting an enemy that can never be defeated.
The global warming scam is a key promotion in the agenda for an authoritarian world government, they plan to have a global carbon tax to initially fund this global monstrosity, but it is still only a fraction of the overall problem. If AGW crashes and burns there will be a new promotion to replace it, the Global Elites will just keep spinning new webs of deciet until people around the world wake up to who really pulls the strings and gets rid of them. Still, just because he is capitalizing on the flood situation in Pakistan to whip up sentiments doesn’t mean anything really for the debate at hand. Speaking of Al Gore speaking, here he is again –

He gets heckled by an inconsiderate denieralist person, but it’s worth listening to his fact-filled speech. He mentions the flood in Pakistan, “Nothin’ like that’s ever happened there before.”
And they’re setting records, too. “… before that happened, one of their cities, one of their cities had a temperature of 129 degrees, an all time record.” Except for 136° in Libya and 134° in Death Valley a century ago.
And people used to wonder why I prayed daily for Bill Clinton’s continued good health.
But hey, here’s actual non-govt-subsidized progress –

I think we need to give cred it where it is do. Osama or whoever, has better PR people on his staff then 10:10 and the rest of that rabble. Politics makes strange bed fellows as we all know and this is about politics and nothing more. Image is all and substance is always on the sacrificial alter. At the very least the humor of the situation Anthony pointed out, is better then the withdrawn video. Thanks for pointing it it out. Perhaps the video makers hired Osama’s previous PR people, the connection between blowing up things, even your own followers, is perhaps irony in the extreme.

Is it possible to be left wing, an environmentalist and green activist and still see Climate change science as riddled with holes?
It it outrageous to suggest climate change activity at present is more about money, and capitalists making money from trashing the environment, then making more from bleating they have the answer to the damage as long as enough money is poured into their coffers? Is it possible that whatever your political, religious or economic background to understand how the great swindle is being perpetrated and oppose it?
I am a green activist and environmentalist, but also proud to be a sceptic.
While great efforts have been made by the hard right in North America to highjack this issue and claim the moral high ground, scientific truth is not a characteristic of any nation or political group, it belongs to all of us, and if people are beginning to understand the issue, regardless of who they are, we should welcome them with open arms. I don’t blame the hard right in North America for the disinformation and scare tactics spread about climate change. I do though strongly suspect that big money and capitalism is behind the whole shambles, but I would never assume this to be the truth and categorise complete sections of society for having a presumed attitude to climate change, but unfortunately that is what can happen on this site, and it detracts from one of the best scientific sites I have ever interacted with.
When I see posts like “Obama or Osama remind me of the difference” etc I see the fatal flaw in many sceptic arguments which can easily be exploited by warmanistas.
( “You guys are not interested in science, you just want to promote your own hard right agendas”) So lets stop giving open goals, and lets try and stick to the science and welcome anyone who is brave enough and bright enough to make the effort to see the light. And remember, you don’t have to be right or left wing to understand science.

I think its clear that Osama it trying to recruit greens to the islamist cause. Several analysts have noted that the green movement is more inclined to drift to the Authoritarian side than the libertarian/ democratic side and with the left discredited that may move towards Islam. Osama may have read this work. The pagan religions such as Wicka and Animism do not lend them selves to authoritarianism. Post modernism with its rejection of the concept of truth does not work. The only two religions that are compatible with the green authoritarian trends developing is Islam and the Occult of Nazi Germany.
In such a drift most greens will proceed to move back to the mainstream. Going back to saving the trees in their neighbourhood and the whales in the sea. Activities and areas that we can all agree to.
Osama bin laden is trying to recruit the remaining 2% that will become far more fanatical, seeing green house or population reduction as a holy cause. These would make perfect agents for Al Qaeda because they don’t appear to be of middle eastern appearance and can hide in hundreds of moderate green networks. They may not be willing suicide bombers but there are ways around that problem. This is not as strange as it seems since some have seen it coming.
Osama is not alone:

No, because then the juxtaposition wouldn’t make sense, OBL would merely be another member of the AGW Cult, nothing to see here folks, move along.
What you might ask yourself is how two separate entities found their way to the same conclusion of destroying western civilization.
entity-1: AGW cult : De-Industrialize or Die (because of it)
entity-2: Radical Islam : Convert or Die (because of us)
Unfortunately for the AGW cult, the 10:10 campaign (Red Button, Exploding Children, No Pressure!) ties you closer to them than you care to realize. This association would be more difficult to make without others like Earth First, Malthusians, Ehrlich’s ‘Population Bomb’, GreenPeace and WWF commercials and yes, the Unabomber. This is a logical fallacy known as “Burden of Proof”. You assume he’s dead because of a
lack of evidence that he’s still alive. Well, he is in hiding, so the lack of evidence is understandable. Is it odd that he hasn’t appeared live on camera? Perhaps. The fact remains that the burden of proof lies with those claiming that he’s dead. As for the crop circles, and 9/11 conspiracy stuff, you have it backwards. Those “theories” also lack evidence, as does the CAGW/CC/CD “theory”.
I will believe he’s dead when they discover either him, or his remains.

Osama’s dead. Who made the tape, and why?
The combination of the alleged OBL statement and the 10:10 propaganda video makes for quite the “You’re either with us [on curbing emissions], or we’ll kill you” message, indeed.
But one has to also wonder WHY ‘climate change’ is being inserted in the message of a despised icon. An icon that is, most likely, of a dead person. OBL has been “probably dead” for quite awhile now (see (1) below for some news sources on that.), but his ghost – so to speak – is being kept alive, probably by the western intelligence community itself, for propaganda purposes.
Once you consider the likeliness that “OBL” (associated in the general public with ‘terrorism’) is being LINKED ON PURPOSE with “concern over climate change” (aka ‘environmentalism’), you got to wonder if the real intent is in fact a de facto covert smear campaign against environmentalism itself. This “news” is more bizarre than anything else.

He’ll use any tragedy in whatever area of the world that fits his purpose; he’ll support any cause that fits his purpose too. This is war. This is psychology. This is called keeping your face on the telly and people talking about you. Some call it spin. Whatever you call it, he seems to have no trouble doing it. Was AGW used, you bet. It’s an interesting sign of the times that bin Laden blames the west for problems thought to arise from global warming.
However, if he came out in favor of doing more exercise, this should not come as an embarrassment to exercise advocates, any more than his endorsement of AGW should come as an embarrassment to AGW advocates.
It is curious that he blames the west for consuming the oil that that countries like Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, Kuwait, Libya, Iran, etc, sell. Isn’t it equally their fault for selling it?

El Cid was a national hero of Christian Spain. Not the Arabs. He was one of the first heroes of the Reconquista – the several hundred years during which Spain evicted the Muslims. It culminated during the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella in the propitious year 1492. The Cid was tied to his horse in order to convince his enemies he was still alive and thus scare them off the field. According to legend, it worked.

As a result we have taken the decision to disassociate ourselves from 10:10 at this time.
