Great news, and a present for the many readers of WUWT. The “Our Climate” iPhone App has made it through Apple’s review process unscathed and the App is now available for download on the iTunes Store worldwide.

The app has had many, many people contribute to it’s design, content gathering, and review. It is a joint effort of dozens of people.

I had been asked to review this app. So, for “inquiring minds”, no, I earn nothing from it, just like in a scientific paper review. How about a Blackberry app?
I am not so enamored with the Apple or AT&T corporation. If you check the AT&T coverage map, the areas that are tan with an orange stripe means that I am on borrowed time. I can only have limited use of the iPhone. If I use it too much, given that I am borrowing time from a non AT&T wireless phone provider, AT&T can cut me off, which means my iPhone won’t work anymore. Much of the middle and western US would find this to be the case. If you live away from mega-population centers, AKA monied centers, AT&T could not care less about you. The Mac corporation also could not care less, given that they only use AT&T. I want my Ma Bell back.
Same here – I’d buy the app if only I had an iPhone.

It would be neat to add the SurfaceStation project… you enter the surface station and get all the data in a graph form as well as its review. If the station is not there… then you can submit a review.
I would just like to mention that people may buy the application even if they don’t have any iPhone-like device. You can’t use it, but you may still contribute your dollar. 😉

Has some nice things, especially the news updates. Isn’t really ready for prime time for IPad users like me. Would like to see the app reworked for IPad.
Regarding the “survey” on climate change. Percentages are nice, but raw numbers would help define the size of the respondent group.
Need to fix one question in the test. As a matter of law, in Mass. v. EPA, the Supreme Court held that CO2 is a pollutant. The term is a defined term under the Clean Air Act. Thus, NOx SOx and CO2 are all legally pollutants. In practical terms, none of them are pollutants (having an adverse effect on human health and the environment) at and below some level (different for each). Need to show greater care on that one.
Overall, more than worth the price if for nothing other than the new feed, but clearly nice for the graphics, which on an IPad allow for great use in the cocktail hour (ok, at the bar).

Unfortunately I, like many others, have an Android device and would definitely pay for an Android version. I’m some of the Blackberry owners would feel the same way.
Also, I refuse to contribute towards Apple in any way (I am a fan of open source software) so the itunes suggestion is a no go for me.

Heh. Here in the hills around Silicon Valley, we’re technically covered by AT&T, but in practice Verizon gives much better reception (I’ve heard this explained as inadequate bandwidth for the humongous number of AT&T users; maybe, maybe not).
In any case I won’t be downloading this “oil company propaganda” (I’m kidding) because I don’t think I’m smart enough to use an iPhone. 🙂 For those who are, I hope they learn something from this.

I think that to say the least, it’s a bit of a misunderstanding of yours what the application is trying to build upon. It is building on science – you may even call it the official science – and science knows no borders. It is international. And it is very clear that globally, CO2 is surely not a pollutant.
Whether or not the United States have scientifically incompetent judges who decide to redefine the notion of “pollutants” so that it crazily includes CO2 has absolutely no impact on the global science – and on Australian iPhone appmakers such as Aeris Systems.
Please get rid of the quote marks around greenhouse (in greenhouse effect).
Despite questionable scientific usage, greenhouse effect is correct English language requiring no special punctuation.
Do not be the guy that uses theatrical fingerquote gestures in casual conversation.
Works nicely on the Ipod Touch, and only 59p in the UK!

Pamela Gray: Have patience. There are persistent rumors that Apple will announce a new deal with Verizon in early 2011. I have delayed my upgrade to IPhone 4 until this occurs. I agree AT&T sucks.

I was just surfing around and the program froze my phone when I tried to look at Climate 101.
I think “greenhouse” effect should always be in quotation marks since it borrows a term from a legitimate well understood effect and tries to apply it to a totally different poorly understood concept. The earth’s atmosphere does not behave like a greenhouse.
The quiz worked okay.

Absolutely no ATT signal here, and my local service is ATT. Also no DSL service here ATT doesn’t want to repair/upgrade 40 year old telephone lines to meet requirements for DSL. There fore no high speed. Currently using Sprint cell service unlimited roaming with Samsung inspiration 30 and most times hit a verizon signal. our only option for high speed is satellite service and the cost is very prohibitive for our current financial condition. Oh Well some day.
In the mean time will continue with the old very slow due to cable conditions dial up.

Under “Climate Drivers” the sun should get credit for being the DC term. All of the AC variations are subordinate to the fact that the sun shines.
I just bought the app, and there is a lot of cool stuff in it. Will there be additions and updates as time passes?
Errant thought. Have you thought about using phone cameras and the phone GPS services for the surface station study documentation? I realize it’s about finished in NA, or is that just the US? In other areas people could take the picture put the Lat, Long to it and email it to you. People probably already are, so I sorry if I’m covering old news.

iPod Touch owner here.
No monthly fee – I can use it on my home WiFi or any free WiFi I can find. Both McDonalds and Starbucks are now providing free WiFi nationwide (US) so with “OurClimate” I now have the climate in my pocket. (Right next to the “hole in my pocket” from the “Yellow Submarine”.)

Some of us still like books. They smell good and have a special presence in the home.
My bright idea is the ability to generate a book with WUWT posts, including the comments. Wikipedia already has this technology.
Great stuff! Good job. It works well! One point of improvement could be to make the content of the top-10 list zoomable (especially the graphs) and/or allow 90deg screen rotation.
But still cool and well worth the support!
Ugh, it has plate tectonics. The only science more shoddy than man made climate change. They can’t even describe how the geometry works for subducting slabs when they would need to diverge from parallel lines of a Great Circle. The reason is because it’s geometrically impossible.

Seriously, I think you have struck gold with the climate app idea, Anthony. Obviously though, the base of platforms needs to be expanded. What better way to counter the alarmist propaganda then with unrelenting access to the truth? First Hansen will attack the concept when he realizes it’s a game-changer, and then the warmists will be forced to create their own app with a database of distorted data.
Almost every night I hear desperate global warming blurbs on the news. Tonight on ABC News it was “…global warming is irrefutable, and (of course) it’s happening faster then we thought…” There’s no support of any kind given for these statements now, just a strident repetition of the alarmist drumbeat, maybe thirty seconds worth, and then on to the sports report. It’s apparent that the days of global warming fanaticism are numbered, the shouts of its loudest advocates are trailing off, and the days of easy grant money will be slipping through their fingers like grains of sand.
An update. I still have an old 1st generation jailbroken iPod Touch running 3.1.3. I’m happy to report that the purchased app loaded properly and runs. However my Touch is a bedside podcaster so I don’t use it all that much these days. I would still prefer an Android version for my phone.

Same question here. I’m beginning to think IBBDemo2 may be an emulator for displaying Web sites, and will not actually run apps. Happy to be proved wrong!

Hey everyone, this app is great! I bought it this morning and have now had a bit of a chance to muck around with it.
I’ve given my phone to 4 people to try the test on and it’s got them thinking to say the least…..
Many eye openers for people that don’t follow as closely as someone like me. It made them want to check on facts and all four of them immediately opened web browsers and began their enlightenment:)
We need to make this app rate highly in iTunes….. it doesn’t matter if you own an iPhone or not…… a great number of the people this app should be targeted by DO.
We need to get this app into the iTunes top10 list!
Top ten means front page of App store and fantastic exposure. We need to keep this thing front page so that people see it…. people that wouldn’t search for it (nice for the choir but better if it makes more people join the choir)

Downloaded it yesterday. Looks really nice and is informative. I do have two issues:
1) None of the pages will zoom so a lot of the graphs and some text are unreadable.
2) It doesn’t rotate like most apps on the iPhone.
These two items would make it a lot more useful but no regrets supporting your effort
putting this together.
WebOS, please. Don’t forget the Palm Pre, Pixi, and Pre Plus.
This app is nothing short of amazing! Better than that croc put out by the warmists a few months ago!
Only a few minor criticisms – there seems to be no way to zoom the text using the usual pinch and expand gestures, nor do the graphs respond to reorienting the device in landscape mode. The news section does appear to be based on a web page and using the inbuilt Safari browser – the page can be expanded but still can only be read in portrait style not landscape.
It would be nice for the articles in the News section to be cached for times when the user is not near a Wifi or Phone network. If these articles are found on sites with mobile versions
Has anyone else noticed that the world seems to be spinning faster and faster? That we’re inventing things and words that none but children can fathum.

I’ve never had a blackberry of iphone, but am getting one in Septemer. I thought i had finally decided on blackberry…….but now.
Anyway great app, and they are supposed to be the fastest way to reach people currently available on Earth. 1 billion downloads in 9 months!

I notice only three comments at the Huff Post to Carl Pope’s article. I learned a week ago from the Huff Post comment editor supervisor that Carl can block comments to his articles – and also that he can set the guidelines for the Huff Post comment editors as they apply to his articles. Thus, Carl can block critical comments of his articles on the Huff Post. This is a fact that needs to be publicized.
I had three of my comments to his earlier article – where he accused Watts of being the developer of the iPhone app – blocked. No obscenity or other problems but they were critical of Pope’s homework. It took several emails to break through to a Huff Post editor to learn what was afoot.
Have just submitted a comment to Carl’s latest article – and his huge error in saying that Watts did not include information that Watts was not the developer. Watts clearly did say that in the article.
