December 7th, 2009…a day that will live in hypocrisy

It will be remembered as the day the greens bombed Copenhagen with limousines.

Picture updated at 12:30PM – Anthony

From the Telegraph, the tale of elitist excess begins:

On a normal day, Majken Friss Jorgensen, managing director of Copenhagen’s biggest limousine company, says her firm has twelve vehicles on the road. During the “summit to save the world”, which opens here tomorrow, she will have 200. “We thought they were not going to have many cars, due to it being a climate convention,” she says. “But it seems that somebody last week looked at the weather report.”

Ms Jorgensen reckons that between her and her rivals the total number of limos in Copenhagen next week has already broken the 1,200 barrier. The French alone rang up on Thursday and ordered another 42. “We haven’t got enough limos in the country to fulfil the demand,” she says. “We’re having to drive them in hundreds of miles from Germany and Sweden.”

And the total number of electric cars or hybrids among that number? “Five,” says Ms Jorgensen. “The government has some alternative fuel cars but the rest will be petrol or diesel. We don’t have any hybrids in Denmark, unfortunately, due to the extreme taxes on those cars. It makes no sense at all, but it’s very Danish.”

But wait, there’s more!

The airport says it is expecting up to 140 extra private jets during the peak period alone, so far over its capacity that the planes will have to fly off to regional airports ā€“ or to Sweden ā€“ to park, returning to Copenhagen to pick up their VIP passengers.

As well 15,000 delegates and officials, 5,000 journalists and 98 world leaders, the Danish capital will be blessed by the presence of Leonardo DiCaprio, Daryl Hannah, Helena Christensen, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Prince Charles. A Republican US senator, Jim Inhofe, is jetting in at the head of an anti-climate-change “Truth Squad.” The top hotels ā€“ all fully booked at Ā£650 a night ā€“ are readying their Climate Convention menus of (no doubt sustainable) scallops, foie gras and sculpted caviar wedges.

Yep, that’s the word for it, hypocracy! I hope that they (those that have them of course – I am not sure what part of the female anatomy would equate so I won’t go there), freeze their little nuts off. I dare say that there will be plenty more where this comes from over the next few days.
I note that over the weekend from several little snippets of news, the NOO Labour Environmental Public Broadcasting Corporation, or BBC as it is better known, has been doing its straw man task of commenting on the “stolen” emails as embarrassing, but as “experts have pointed out” the “evidence” for manmade Climate Change is “overwhelming”, 4,000 IPCC scientists around the world have apparently said so! Funny that, I thought they were all in Copenhagen? Ā£650 per night, that is around Ā£10,000,000 per night all in without journos, & that’s just for accommodation for starters, before the absolutely essential expenses forms show up the good-time girls (hope Bill Clinton isn’t going?), & or boys, dirty movies, etc., although admittedly many of the girls are doing their bit for the environment by offering their services free of charge, presumably to offset their carbon emissions from such activity! No wonder we need to raise masses of taxes if this is what it all costs. How long does this jamboree last? 7 days? That’s Ā£70,000,000, add in the travelling costs, well double it (I nearly got a job at the CRU) that is Ā£140,000,000. How much good could be done around the world with that little sum, how many childrens’s lives saved (Madonna has only so much money & spare room), anti-malarial drugs issued, AIDS prevention schemes set up, empty bellies fed, clean water pumps installed, seed crops provided, etc? Of course, none of the aforementioned will be on the agenda. Wonder what kind of Hockey Stick graph would be produced with those sort of costs?
PS Before anyone picks up on it, I was joking about the job at the CRU, being self-employed I am by definition, unemployable! :-))

Re: the EPA v CO2… Why don’t they [EPA] all begin living on 100% nitrogen, so as not to produce any CO2 themselves. They can come back in a year and report on their collective personal observations. To be balanced, UN/IPCC should participate also – manditory!
As for the rest of us, we could live our lives hyper-ventillating, which would reduce the expelled CO2 PPM significantly. Bet we could get down below 10kPPM and maintain longer than the EPA can in their experiment (above).
Come on EPA, be the leaders, you go first!::)

Speaking of hypocrisy I see Google is still not auto-suggesting ClimateGate:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web+Search/thread?tid=25112ee0c29cbd01&hl=en
This was the Google employee answer:
“Hey everyone,
Thanks for voicing your concerns. We haven’t made any adjustments to our suggestions to limit the appearance of [ climategate ] in Google Suggest. So you know, it’s totally normal for a suggestion to take time to appear consistently in our query suggestions (it’s even normal for it to appear in some but not all cases).
Since [ climategate ] is a growing search trend, it’s likely to start appearing more and more consistently over time. I can’t promise, though — suggestions are generated automatically, and Internet fame can be fleeting šŸ™‚
If you’re interested, below I’m linking to some Google Insights for Search data about [ climategate ].
Thanks,
Jem”
Of course the problem with this explanation is the Google did auto-suggest ClimateGate earlier, but then mysteriously stopped suggesting it some days ago.
I give the Google employee the Bulldust seal of approval… that is to say, I think his/her response is prime, Grade A, certifiable bulldust.
Number of ClimateGate web hits in Google Oz … 32.7 million
Number of ClimateGate news articles on Google … 6,924
Number of times Google will auto-suggest ClimateGate … 0 (priceless!)
Do no evil, eh? Heck the number of hits for pR0n (spelt correctly of course) is only 29 million on the Aussie Google… so Climategate is bigger than pR0n now… I know I must be dreaming.

Good to see the Telegraph running with this. I nearly choked on my breakfast earlier today: BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Good Morning Scotland’ news programme had a sceptic in their studio, for a discussion with Dr Richard Nixon (WWF Scotland). Sillars is not a scientist, but a formidable former politician, and he came across well. The debate was good natured, and unlike Watson verses Morano on Newsnight, Nixon remained calm. But what really struck me was that the interviewer didn’t any any point interupt Sillars. the programme can be listened to on the BBC i-player at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0074hf7 for the next 7 days (UK only I think) – interview starts just after 2 hours 15 mins.

It’s good that those eco-socialists are showing off their profligacy. They themselves planted the seed of self-destruction and blame game in coming up with deep emission targets. The Chinese, Indians, Brazilians, Mexicans, etc. will see the futility of joining them for emission cut hypocrisy.

Is it not time for a SI unit of hypocrisy. To be called a “Gore” perhaps. A “Gore” being defined as the amount of hypocracy required to rock up to a climate conference in a Gulfstream and imagine you are saving the planet. The unit could also be coupled with others eg; Gores/sq.km – NewtonGores to express the extent and force of the hypocrisy. For the first time scientists will be able to gather accurate data on the phenomenon and after the necessary adjustments, produce models which predict the future extent of runaway global hypocrisy.
A unit of ineptness could follow. I would humbly suggest that Gordon Brown be honoured for this one.

I wish we could switch off the world for the next couple of weeks. Added to all the hypocrisy covered so pointedly in the thread, the thought that we have to listen to waves of politicians and politico-scientists competing to become the greenest is profoundly depressing.
All this macho posturing is simply an attempt to get the best headlines for individual leaders. The reality of climate change summits is that whatever the agreement, there is no mechanism in place to police the outcome. Expediency will always outweigh vote-losing legislation, so perhaps there is hope that a fews years down the line, when it becomes clear that the reality of climate change is cyclic rather than hyperbolic, that they will not have committed us, the poor paying public, to too much of a decline in our standards of living.
And also, perhaps after the beauty contest is over, the politicians will review the fundamental science, reflect on the true complexity of the climate system, conclude that the simplistic climate models currently used are simply not up to the job of forecasting, and therefore should not be used as the basis for planning anything.

The front page of today’s “The Independent” (UK) has the headline “CLIMATE CHANGE : THE FACTS” And refers to the included free 20 page booklet produced by the UK Met Office. I nearly suffered heart failure, such is my anger, after looking through it. They are still showing the hockey stick graph so comprehensively de-bunked by one of your contributors only yesterday. And, lo and behold, they also include a chart starting at 1850, so conveniently leaving out the MWP!!
The articles & editorial are equally vomit inducing, and the letters page shows the same slavish devotion to the cause typical of religious movements.

Dedicated to the EPA, the Politicians, Copenhagen and everyone looking forward to their share of the swag ā€¦
He rose to his feet.
ā€œIf,ā€ he said tersely, ā€œwe could for a moment move on to the subject of fiscal policy ā€¦ā€
ā€œFiscal policy!ā€ whooped Ford Prefect, ā€œFiscal policy!ā€
The Management Consultant gave him a look that only a lungfish could have copied.
ā€œFiscal policy ā€¦ā€ he repeated, ā€œthat is what I said.ā€
ā€œHow can you have money,ā€ demanded Ford, ā€œif none of you actually produces anything? It doesnā€™t grow on trees you know.ā€
ā€œIf you would allow me to continue ā€¦ā€
Ford nodded dejectedly.
ā€œThank you. Since we decided a few weeks ago to adopt the leaf as legal tender, we have, of course, all become immensely rich.ā€
Ford stared in disbelief at the crowd who were murmuring appreciatively at this and greedily fingering the wads of leaves with which their track suits were stuffed.
ā€œBut we have also,ā€ continued the Management Consultant, ā€œrun into a small inflation problem on account of the high level of leaf availability, which means that, I gather, the current going rate has something like three deciduous forests buying one shipā€™s peanut.ā€
Murmurs of alarm came from the crowd. The Management Consultant waved them down.
ā€œSo in order to obviate this problem,ā€ he continued, ā€œand effectively revalue the leaf, we are about to embark on a massive defoliation campaign, and ā€¦ er, burn down all the forests. I think youā€™ll all agree thatā€™s a sensible move under the circumstances.ā€
The crowd seemed a little uncertain about this for a second or two until someone pointed out how much this would increase the value of the leaves in their pockets whereupon they let out whoops of delight and gave the Management Consultant a standing ovation. The accountants amongst them looked forward to a profitable Autumn.
ā€œYouā€™re all mad,ā€ explained Ford Prefect.
ā€œYouā€™re absolutely barmy,ā€ he suggested.
ā€œYouā€™re a bunch of raving nutters,ā€ he opined.

Slightly off topic I know but I just heard on BBC radio a review of the last couple of decades of the politics surrounding the issue of climate change. During the discussion an advocate of AGW came out with the line that the ā€œScienceā€ supporting AGW had ā€œhardenedā€ since 1998.
Iā€™m sure Iā€™ve lived through the last 10 years and thatā€™s a bit different to how I recall things. In 1998 I believed in Global Warming. We were approaching a very hot El ā€“ NINO year, Ice core data seemed to show that global temperature and atmospheric CO2 were in step with each other, and tree ring data and thermometer readings appeared to show that the pace of recent warming was unprecedented.
However, since then a number of key FACTS have emerged.
2001
ā€œIn the 1990ā€™s the classic Vostok ice core graph showed temperature and carbon in lock step moving at the same time. It made sense to worry that carbon dioxide did influence temperature. But by 2003 new data came in and it was clear that carbon lagged behind temperature. The link was back to front.ā€
2003
ā€œIn a stunning scientific paper just published in Energy and Environment (McIntyre and McKitrick), the infamous `Hockey Stick’ as developed by Mann, Bradley and Hughes in 1998 has been comprehensively discredited – using the same data sources and even methodology used by the Hockey Stick’s original authors.ā€
2009
“The Earth is not warming. The 28-year period of warming between 1970 and 1998 stopped dead in its tracks, and the climate has been cooling ever since.ā€
I HAVE RE-CONSIDERED MY POSITION!!!

And the Met Office’s representative is still telling us that the Arctic ice is still melting.
She must have missed the Met Office report about the big melt 2 years ago being misreported as an effect of temperature and actually being attributed to wind.
She can’t have checked the fact that the last 2 years have seen a recovery of ice levels.
Or perhaps she is basing her calculations on the cunning plan to redefine sea ice a 30/70% ice/water as opposed to the 15/85% traditionally used, thereby reducing ice extent massively at a stroke.
It is good to know that you can rely on professionals for the reality of climate change.

NASA’s James Hansen was just interviewed on Australia’s Lateline program. The transcript will be available tomorrow. He basically downplayed the whole Climategate scandal when asked about it, saying that the data has always been available, and that if there was anything wrong with it, it would have been pointed out ages ago. Of course he conveniently failed to mention Steve McIntyre doing precisely that regarding the Hockey Stick. And he failed to mention that it is the methods used that are the chief concern. The only criticism he gave was when some scientists didn’t release the data (i.e. Phil Jones et al), but clearly this fact alone doesn’t pose any suspicions at all for Hansen.
Hansen then went on about “tipping points” and how the 400 ppm CO2 level is getting up into “dangerous territory”. When asked about feedback loops, he gave a very poor answer, citing an example of an Antarctic ice-sheet breaking up irreversibly and also citing an example involving methane.
He talked also about the accuracy of certain weather stations. He said that in all their analyses, they only use rural weather stations, screening out urban ones due to the heat island effect. I wonder if anyone here can confirm the accuracy of this statement?
A lot more was discussed, but like I said, the transcript won’t be available until tomorrow.

This is supposed to be a Q&A on Copenhagen. On the second screen down you will see there is a hockey-stick graph with no label on it to say what it is, but obviously intended to show the ‘proof’ of the complete nonesense they are all spouting. I saw another piece on the BBC over the weekend where they ‘debunked’ some sceptic points, one of their ‘debunkings’ said that it was incontrovertibly true that the earth was hotter now that at any time in the past several thousand years. So it looks like the poor old MWP has gone again!

December 7, 2009 6:05 am

Ed Miliband [Environment Sec in UK] just had 40 minutes of sceptics asking questions.
The view of callers was ‘its the Sun’, ‘why if its so important are we building another runway at Heathrow’, ‘what about the damage biofuels are reaking’, ‘what proportion of the CO2 is down to humans rather than the rest of the planet’… I asked about the MWP, but it was ignored šŸ™
The presenter [the excellent Simon Mayo] said that there was an overwhelming view from the texts/emails/calls that people were sceptical.
There were no supportive callers or messages read out. As this is the BBC, you can be sure that if they could find a positive, they’d have given it airtime.

The Guardian has penned an editorial on Copenhagen printed by 56 papers around the world. Predictable, of course, but worth debunking, which I have done here:
http://peacelegacy.org/articles/answer-fourteen-days-seal-historys-judgment
From my conclusion:
There is one thing that history has certainly taught us: that the human race has the capacity to be deluded in mass by an obviously false, scary idea. We ridicule early Salem for the witch trials; we are horrified by bloody queen Mary burning heretics, we are mystified by the sudden viciousness of the French reign of terror or the Nazi idea that all the world’s troubles were caused by one single race. All of these ideas were false and the evidence that disproved them was staring everyone in the face, yet millions went along with them. What about our own mass delusion?

From Wiki:
“Hypocrisy is the act of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy is thus a kind of lie. Hypocrisy may come from a desire to hide from others actual motives or feelings.
Hypocrisy is not simply an inconsistency between what is advocated and what is done. Samuel Johnson made this point when he wrote about the misuse of the charge of “hypocrisy” in Rambler No. 14:
Nothing is more unjust, however common, than to charge with hypocrisy him that expresses zeal for those virtues which he neglects to practice; since he may be sincerely convinced of the advantages of conquering his passions, without having yet obtained the victory, as a man may be confident of the advantages of a voyage, or a journey, without having courage or industry to undertake it, and may honestly recommend to others, those attempts which he neglects himself.[1]”
Many of the Hokumhagen participants are simply delusional zealots, and probably suffering from cognitive dissonance big-time. They rationalize their use of planes, limos, etc. by saying “I am doing this for the good of the planet”. Further, they have the bandwagon effect (we are all in this together, and are simply doing our good deed for the planet), and the self-reinforcing groupthink.

Not too coincidentally, not one of the ARGO probes has recorded the holocaust either. Not a one. So there you go. Proof that warming denial is linked and proof of holocaust denial!

One of their main concerns is to avoid being consigned by their fellows in this group into the ranks of the “benighted” (the crudely selfish and ignorant), which is why accusations of being tainted by Big Oil or right-wing think tanks or Fox News or IDers or flat-earthers make such powerful and commonly used weapons by the groups’ mind-guards in keeping the rank and file in line.
IOW, in large part their motivations are partly idealistic, but also partly social and psychological, in that they want to be part of the leading edge of a high-status in-group, and also want to nourish and bask in the feeling of self-approbation that this reflected self-worth, and this perception of acting idealistically, gives them.

I still say that itā€™s not just a failure of science (though many supposed scientists have failed). Anytime someone is interviewed and claims that local climatic conditions demonstrate AGW (without the reporter querying the logic), anytime someone claims that if 90% of nutritionists said your dinner was unsafe you wouldnā€™t eat it and therefore we must do all we can to save the planet, and anytime that someone claims that there is a consensus that CO2 emissions cause global warming, therefore governments must invest in ā€˜greenā€™ technologies, we encounter a failure of thinking.
Thinking, for the most part, is not taught in schools; and, considering all the bleating about UN conventions we hear these days, I call peopleā€™s attention to the Convention on the Rights of the Child which, as I understand it, actually has the force of law in many countries:
[I apologise for the extensive quotation; please bear with me. Emphasis is mine.]

Article 28
1. States Parties recognize the right of the child to education … .
3. States Parties shall promote and encourage international cooperation in matters relating to education, in particular with a view to contributing to the elimination of ignorance and illiteracy throughout the world and facilitating access to scientific and technical knowledge and modern teaching methods.
Article 29
1. States Parties agree that the education of the child shall be directed to:
(a) The development of the child’s personality, talents and mental and physical abilities to their fullest potential… .
(c) The development of respect for … his or her own cultural identity, language and values … and for civilizations different from his or her own … .

I submit that, throughout the developed world, millions of children are being robbed of their cultural patrimony by not being taught their own literature and history, and by not being taught how to use their minds to the fullest extent. There are grounds, I reckon, for taking legal actions against national governments for breaching this convention.

In addition to blogs, skeptics of global warming have used “crowdsourcing” to improve on the science supposedly done by professionals. Anthony Watts is a meteorologist who was surprised by how local conditions affect the reliability of the 1,200 U.S. weather stations. Along with more than 600 volunteers, he found that almost all the stations violate the government’s standards by being too close to heating vents or surrounded by asphalt.

NASA-GATE
What’s become known as “Climategate” may be about to explode on this side of the pond as well.
Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, has threatened a lawsuit against NASA if by year-end the agency doesn’t honor his Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for information on how and why its climate numbers have been consistently adjusted for errors.
“I assume that what is there is highly damaging,” says Horner, who suspects, based on the public record, the same type of data fudging, manipulation and suppression that has occurred at Britain’s East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU). “These guys (NASA) are quite clearly determined not to reveal their internal discussions about this.”
They may have good reason, says Investor’s Business Daily (IBD):
NASA was caught with its thermometers down when James Hansen, head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, announced that 1998 was the country’s hottest year on record, with 2006 the third hottest.
NASA and Goddard were forced to correct the record in 2007 to show that 1934, decades before the advent of the SUV, was in fact the warmest; in fact, the new numbers showed that four of the country’s 10 warmest years were in the 1930s.
Hansen, who began the climate scare some two decades ago, was caught fudging the numbers again in declaring October 2008 the warmest on record.
This despite the fact that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years.
Scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on that October’s readings at all; figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running.
Was Hansen, like his CRU counterpart Michael Mann, trying to “hide the decline” in temperatures, asks IBD?
Hansen has said in the past that “heads of major fossil-fuel companies who spread disinformation about global warming should be tried for high crimes against humanity and nature.” What penalties would he recommend for himself and his CRU colleagues, asks IBD?

A similar story could apply to the thousands of earth scientists who will be flying into San Francisco from all over the world next week for the annual AGU meeting. Some intrepid reporter might wonder why the AGU isn’t holding this conference electronically as an effort in climate change leadership. And how so many of these individuals rationalize a continual schedule of junket science in light of the ‘consensus’ on the damaging effects. Climate scientists, politicians, and Al Gore would probably argue that their face to face hobnobbing is too important. But when the ‘leaders’ routinely opt to exempt themselves from the restrictions they prescribe for others, carbon emissions start to look less like a moral concern, and more like Soviet-style party privelege.

I don’t think there’s too much to come for here, from what I understand all the cars will be running on Bio-fuels made from straw, patented by some Danish company. I would advice against making too much furore about this one.
I think there needs to be some sort of political expose on the food-price increase that will come as a DIRECT result of farmlands becoming biofuel land – unless the biofuel is a byproduct of say food production.
I’m based in Copenhagen, and I was walking around town today. There are plenty of stands promoting the CO2 scare, but only one paltry ESA stand on the science. That science is outdated and distorted to the point where I did not find anything I couldn’t find fault with.

Remember the luxury dachas of the Party elites in the old Soviet Union? Of Cop15 head Climate Moron, Connie Hedegaard, said it was ā€œthe defining gathering of a generationā€.
And;
ā€œLet me warn you: Political will will never be stronger. This is our chance. If we miss it, it could take years before we get a new and better one.ā€
And;
ā€œIf we are going to have nine billion on this planet by the middle of the century then we better find more intelligent ways of running our world. Even sceptics must acknowledge that this is the challenge. We are working towards that and leaked emails will not derail us because we need to act and the longer we delay the more serious will be the economic consequences.”
And;
ā€œThere are many reasons to act, even for climate sceptics.ā€
Wow. The “DEFINING” gathering of a generation, meaning, I assume the baby boom
generation, born between 1946 and 1964, although the latter part, from 1954 is sometimes referred to “Generation Jones” (as in keeping up with the Joneses). Since she was born in ’60, she is part of the latter subset.
As a pre-Gen Jones baby boomer, I strongly object to the idea of the Climate Circus Hokemhagen, whose only effect on humanity, if so allowed will be to cause economic hardship for many, and yes, even death among poorer populations as being our generation’s defining gathering. No, it would be far better to characterize Woodstock in that manner.
“Even sceptics must acknowledge” there are “more intelligent ways of running the world”. Meaning, we Lefty Loonies who know better how to “run the world” take your money on the basis of a huge fraud, and you sit there and shut up about it, or else. Yes, that’s Lefty Loony “intelligence” for you.
ā€œThere are many reasons to act, even for climate sceptics.ā€
This is dumb on so many levels, even for a Climate Moron like Connie.
Action, then becomes an end in itself. Never mind if the action is in any way intelligent, or even harmful.
So, no, Connie, you do not get to rope climate sceptics into your idiocy. We not only don’t agree, we strongly object.
I notice she did slip, though, and said “leaked emails”, not stolen, for AGW/CC troglodytes will strongly castigate her.

Did you mean “classical Greek”? In English it just means dabbed with oil in a ceremony that consecrates the daubee. In other words, someone who has been elevated to a higher status than the rest of us by virtue of his holiness. Left out of the calculated costs is all the dry cleaning and laundry for 12 days for 20,000 people. Also, the costs of all the new clothes so needed to shine their best. The phone calls made from cellphones needed to tweet, and the laptops they will bring to send their emails. Also the electric they will consume. All are tax deductible or tax payer provided one way or the other. So too, was left out the cost of the car rides to the airports back home to catch the planes to Copenhagen. So too is the opportunity cost lost by all the Danish not being able to mill about their capital as it is inundated with the security teams to protect such a fantabulous collection of royalist personages. Nor does the calculation seem to include the promotion costs, and the promotional material costs, or the printing costs for all the reports to be (not) read, and the handouts dropped, and the invitations to be delivered. Nor is the cost of landfill for the garbage collected. On and on one can go, deep into the abyss of government (tax payer) funding. By the time you get done, it is not merely a billion of whatever currency, it is far higher. Why not just call it Kazoodles of dollars, euros and pounds, all conveniently stuffed into the coffers of the King of Denmark so he might renovate one of his palaces.

Watching UK Channel 4 news from Gropenhagen. It seems that everyone is going to limit the global thermostat to a 2 degree rise. How does that work, then? They all seem to be singing from a hymnsheet that I don’t understand. Can’t they see? Don’t they know? Even Channel 4 is hopelessly biased. And “Climategate”? Of no apparent consequence – they are sold on the IPCC, and hopelessly blinkered. They STILL think they’re going to stop “Global Warming”, so if, as it is likely, the globe is cooling, will they then bask in triumphalism in a couple of years to come when the temperature is found not to have risen, but to have fallen? We realists appear to be on a loser, whatever. Of course, when the truth eventually outs, we (and they) will be long gone, so there’ll be nobody around to say “told you so”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, hosting the UN climate conference in Copenhagen this December, has signed a contract for liquid bio ethanol to fuel the conferenceā€™s limousines. Unlike conventional bio fuels that are made from valuable food products like corn or sugar cane, the contract is for fuel made from plant chaff ā€“ an agricultural waste product.
Compared with regular gasoline, the so-called second generation bio fuel produced by the local company Inbicon will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 85 percent.

Unlike conventional bio fuels that are made from valuable food products like corn or sugar cane, the contract is for fuel made from plant chaff ā€“ an agricultural waste product.
That agricultural chaff should be going back into the soil.
Are we gaining on emissions at the expense of the topsoil here?
Something for nothing, on the same level as clean hydrogen with no apparent natural source.
Perpetual notions.

1. I know a way that all the people attending the conference could have reduced their CO2 emissions 100% : don’t go!
2. There’s no way that all those limos are using bio-fuels. My gut tells me that the press release on fuel made from straw almost certainly covers just a few of the cars for the top VIPs as a publicity stunt. The vast majority of the limos are being privately rented from private companies who will get their fuel where they can and according the the press release ‘The second generation bio fuel is not yet commercially available’.
3. The fuel being consumed by the cars is *dwarfed* by the aviation gas expended.
4. As has been discussed on this site many times before, the 85% CO2 savings on any bio-fuel is pure fantasy.
5. Look at the pictures : this is not scientific, or even a political, debate. It is the high priests of the Church of AGW preaching to their disciples.
((In Internet circles the use of all caps is frowned upon as it is the equivalent of shouting – in the next paragraph you may assume that I am, in fact, shouting))
6. I’M PAYING FOR THIS BLOODY CRAP!

“The Danish foreign ministry, official host of the Dec. 7-18 event, agreed to buy 3,000 liters (793 U.S. gallons) of biofuel from four Nordic companies that will produce it from plant chaff at an experimental facility, it said today at a news conference. ”
793 gallons for over 1,200 limousines (most of which probably cannot run biofuel in the first place)? Really? I’m guessing that this is in reference to a few limos procured directly by conference. And that certain folks have interpreted the news, shall we say, irresponsibly.

Well this morning, I was able to hear a direct report from Copenhagen from Lord Monckton; the third Viscount Monckton of Brenchley. He’s an extremely polished speaker; and his report was quite extensive (on KSFO radio early morning talk show).
If you haven’t ever Googled up Lord Monckton, and read his bio; you ought to do that to see just who he is. Even just as interesting, is to also read the bios of his father the second Viscount (British Army Bigwig); and even more interesting his grandfather the first Viscount Monckton of Brenchley. He was a prominent Attorney (counsel) who shepherded the abdication of King Edward, and the ascendency of King George VI (whose real name was evidently Albert).
Perhaps you may want to contemplate what might have happened in 1939/40 when WW-II broke out; in the event that Edward had still been on the throne. I have; and it gives me the heebie Jeebies, just thinking about it.
Yes we have much to be thankful to Lord Monckton for, and his family.
The final words of his talk this morning were “God bless America.”
Yes Christopher might outdo his Grandfather’s service to mankind. Quite a contrast with the Prince of Wales.

See ā€œClimategate: The good shepherdsā€:

Agree with you Roger. It is not entirely out of arrogance this attitude arrives. But there is the sense of entitlement, and condescending stewardship. In this case the shepherds attempted to steward without first checking the viability of their story. And now discover that so much tampering has been required as to easily unravel.
Perhaps the shepherds will learn to confide in their flocks more – which will then grow trust between them. Not a bad lesson.

A chilly 15c in Melbourne this morning, where 24c is the average for this time of year.
Sydney was predicted to be 35c today, 40c+ in the west where I am, but it rose to a fairly normal 28c in Sydney. It’s actually quite nice out there, I’d say about 32c.
So much for the “catasrophic” weather on it’s way for NSW.

AGW have all the signs of a religion.
The opening video is probably the worst i have seen.
But if the delegates belive in this are we not winning this important debate with facts.
“More than 2000 delegates watched the four-minute long film ā€˜Please Help the Worldā€™ when COP15 opened this morning. Thousands of other delegates watched the opening on screens in meeting rooms at the Bella Center.
ā€œWe have made a film which speaks to the heart rather than to the brain,ā€ says the Danish director of the film Mikkel Blaabjerg Poulsen.
The film shows a six-year old girl who has a nightmare about the destruction of the planet due to climate change. She wakes up and begs politicians to ā€œplease help the worldā€, in a touching scene on top of a skyscraper.
ā€œI hope that the film can affect politicians in a positive way, so that they may raise their goals a little higher, because their emotions have been touched,ā€ says Mr. Poulsen. The film is made by Danish production company Zentropa RamBUk.”

While I agree whole heartedly with your article, I feel the title should be changed. I see where someone had left a comment about removing ‘this dishonor to our Vets of WW2.’ The reason of course should not be dismissed and the play on words would suggest you knew what you were doing when you wrote the title. The attack on Pearl Harbor is still very painful to many Americans, especially those still living who were unfortunate enough to have to experience it first hand. I’m sure an apology or change of title would be greatly appreciated.

December 8, 2009 5:32 am

This is serious! Stag and hen parties across Europe will be denied limos because of this conference. They may have to stagger from bar to bar unaided.

John B
December 8, 2009 9:21 am

It hit me this morning. I don’t think this is hypocrisy at all. Isn’t this just proof that those behind the climate change fear mongering don’t really believe it?
Think about it. If these 15,000 people truly believed that carbon emissions were destroying the planet, wouldn’t they find a way to have a zero carbon footprint meeting? Maybe video conference from multiple locations.
But they don’t. The insiders–those who know what’s really going on, have seen the really data, and know where the skeletons are buried–behave as if carbon emissions are meaningless.
I see this as another smoking gun that we are being defrauded.
