The real question is asked in the article. How many tickets did they sell? Who would pay to touch the hand of this man? And to have photographic evidence of it! It would trump a lot of other stories, but brand you as naive no nothing too, so probably still not worth it. People are beginning to understand that it’s time to distance themselves from the global warming thing. I’m embarassed to say this. Hmm… Where do I begin?
Many years ago, before I ever heard of Global Climate Warming Change and Hope and So Forth, I re-named an unmentionable part of my anatomy. I had originally named it Little Elvis, but felt badly that the accessories had no name of their own.
So, in a fit of ingenuity (?), I named the entire nether region Big Al and the Boys. The more accurate name, Medium-sized Al and the Boys, lacked sonority.

CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and others need to be investigated and indicted as accomplices in the Climategate fraud, and have their FCC licenses revoked for their participation in perpetuating the fraud.
The power of the MSM to influence the minds of the public and brainwash the listeners is a documented scientific fact therefore, they must be held to a higher standard when broadcasting and be held to account for the lies of omission they take part in as well as the pervasive political one sided agenda they push.
FCC rules have been violated by not reporting on the Climategate scandal and their crime is obvious. The public must demand an investigation of the MSM.

I have a friend whose wife works at NCAR in Boulder, on her way to work the otherday there was a guy walking his dog and everytime a car came up the drive to NCAR he opened his coat to reveal a large sign that said “NCAR is a joke!” You know when they’re heckling in Boulder the wheels are falling off the bus. I wonder if GE’s spinning-off of NBC Universal to Comcast (and only retaining a 20% stake) is their initial volley at throwing-in the towel on their “Green” business model, which was heavily based on getting Cap-and-Trade passed as well as all the future carbon trading schemes which may now be (hopefully) derailed forever by Climategate. GE Chief Executive Jeffrey Immelt used NBC, MSNBC, and The Weather Channel to get their global warming message out – and it is inexplicable that they would divest this part of the business unless they see the writing on the wall for CO2-based business models.

I guess now that people are looking more closely, Al Gore is afraid his appearance will draw attention to how Enron was a huge supporter of cap-and-trade with Ken Lay himself pushing it. Krugman unsurprising was on the Enron payroll, so that could help explain his recent tirade and projection about who is on whose payroll. Greenpeace and others took large sums of money from Enron. Then there’s also the matter of Shell and BP and a number of other companies who stand to gain with cap-and-trade. I’ve been disappointed in Discover Magazine and New Scientist, but – surprise surprise – whenever I see those magazines trying to explain it away, there’s an ad for Shell paying for the article. There really needs to be a hardcore push showing who stands to profit (and what the relationships are) from Copenhagen.
I’m not saying pro-AGW or anti-AGW is purer than the other, just by cancelling out all these “You’re in X’s pocket” can then put more of a focus on the science instead of letting PR spin attempt to distract away.

The dreadful Nature editorial underlines the nature of the crisis. Hope I’m wrong but but I would have thought it obvious that those of us sceptical of AGW will, as we approach the date for Copenhagen and beyond, continue to be sidelined into obscurity. Aside from a few minor reactions to ClimateGate (maybe the odd sacking) the bandwagon will roll on with its massive economic effects being felt across the planet and certainly by everyone in the West.
Isn’t it time for those sceptical of the AGW thesis to consider a focussed strategy with as centrepiece, one well publicised single web location detailing at various technical levels every argument ever put forward for the AGW position together with an authoritative and exhaustive rebuttal or at least a presentation of evidence demonstrating the science is certainly NOT settled?

Gore must be a big fan of Photoshop. That image of the Earth behind him has an artificial lens flare added to the Earth’s horizon. In order for the Earth to be illuminated as shown, the Sun would have to be well to the right of the photo, and not barely coming up on the horizon.
There is nothing wrong with photoshopping images, as they are pleasing to look at. But with a reputation for photoshopping hurricanes onto an otherwise calm Earth for his book cover, he should really back down from this practice. This is especially true as Climate-Gate continues to emerge and he gets drawn into the fray.

So why is it that the vast majority of google hits on “Climategate” are coming from Stockholm? Is that where the UN / IPCC damage control team is headquartered? Or is it the Nobel Butt-Covering team?

Surely there must have been serious men and women in the hard sciences who at some point worried that their colleagues in the global warming movement were putting at risk the credibility of everyone in science. The nature of that risk has been twofold: First, that the claims of the climate scientists might buckle beneath the weight of their breathtaking complexity. Second, that the crudeness of modern politics, once in motion, would trample the traditions and culture of science to achieve its own policy goals. With the scandal at the East Anglia Climate Research Unit, both have happened at once.
I don’t think most scientists appreciate what has hit them. This isn’t only about the credibility of global warming. For years, global warming and its advocates have been the public face of hard science. Most people could not name three other subjects they would associate with the work of serious scientists. This was it. The public was told repeatedly that something called “the scientific community” had affirmed the science beneath this inquiry. A Nobel Prize was bestowed (on a politician).
Global warming enlisted the collective reputation of science. Because “science” said so, all the world was about to undertake a vast reordering of human behavior at almost unimaginable financial cost. Not every day does the work of scientists lead to galactic events simply called Kyoto or Copenhagen. At least not since the Manhattan Project.
What is happening at East Anglia is an epochal event. As the hard sciences—physics, biology, chemistry, electrical engineering—came to dominate intellectual life in the last century, some academics in the humanities devised the theory of postmodernism, which liberated them from their colleagues in the sciences. Postmodernism, a self-consciously “unprovable” theory, replaced formal structures with subjectivity. With the revelations of East Anglia, this slippery and variable intellectual world has crossed into the hard sciences.

is skepticism, in that a theory is accepted until shown to be wrong, at which
point the new theory is accepted, although subjected to further scrutiny
then replaced when a better model comes along, etc.
Open review of data, processes (e.g. programs, models, etc.) facilitates
further analyses and progress, something which appears to have been
impeded by the Climate Gate being closed (as it were….sorry about the pun).
Here’s hoping that not just the MSM, but the voting public in general
sees the truth here, and digs deeper to see ‘Watts Up with That’.

It is not required to propose a new theory to replace the old one. Simply disproving the existing one is sufficient to have it discarded.
That is part of the scientific method.
The AGW theory predicts that and increase in CO2 causes an increase in global temperature.
CO2 is higher now then it was in 1990.
Average global temperature is the same as it was in 1990.
The prediction made by the theory is wrong therefore the AGW theory must be discarded.
