The hurricane spinning the wrong way next to Florida is really neat. It is probably caused by the center of the Earth warming up to millions of degrees.
Notice the Greenland, which 3 km thick ice cover has melted down to open sea instead of ground. And Cuba with its 2000m high mountains has disappeared completely 😮

Let me admit that I don’t find even the fabricated picture, with a couple of hurricanes and a missing Arctic ice, terribly lethal. After all, you can see that the color of the North American forests indicates that they’re doing just fine in that world, and other sectors of the life on Earth probably do the same.
It’s worse than a Steve King horror story, anyone stop to think where the world would be today if this demented idiot had made President ? Says a lot for the ‘democratic process’ and the ”Noble” committee.
And the problem is? That’s what HE says is going to be, that’s the point of the book, i don’t see any wrong in making it graphic.
Mr Gore is a poltroon and a mountebank (just to show his methods have been around a long time). But his similar forebears (not Polar) would have been envious of the quantity of money he has acquired through these methods. In our NOTW, the east coast of Australia has not had a hurricane [cyclone] cross the coast south of the Tropic of Capricorn since 1976.
Before this, it was common for 5 per year to cross the coast.
I like the way they’ve made continental look so much more arid despite all those cyclones buzzing around ready to cause massive storm damage and floods. You wouldn’t buy a science fiction novel that got their “alternate universe” so muddled up, but apparently it’s OK in climate hysterics.

In most cases, a solid noun needs no adjective.
This is not one of them.
They removed the arctic ice, but left the snow in place in Alaska and northern Canada which is impossible They added orange streaks on the west coast and the western great plains, I suppose to represent fire, but not nearly enough smoke to match (nor would the fire be visible from space. They added a large arms to the hurricane off the west coast, the northern one looks detached. There is no way that a hurricane of that intensity would have anything other than subsidence around it.
The cover artist appears to know nothing about climate, weather, or any other science that I can tell. Perhaps it was drawn by the author himself? I assume he would have had to approve it.
Is the loss of Florida supposed to indicate a huge amount of sea level rise caused by the melting of the Arctic sea Ice and the Middle of the Greenland glacier. Who knows! I don’t mind reading works of fantasy but not when they are portrayed as fact.
I think what he’s trying to portray with the shrunken Florida is the threat of sea level rise.
Part of central America is gone, along with Baha.
And parts of the US are “browner” than normal.

The original picture will have come from NASA or some other Government agency. That organisation will have the copyright on the picture. Editing without permission is an infringement of that copyright.
(If that editing was done with permission, then Congress might have something to ask of the agency involved).
Mr Gore and his, gullable, publisher should be prosecuted and be served with a hefty fine, plus an order to recall that publication.
Can a private US citizen take this up? (I’m not one and don’t live in the US either)

I also notice that the continental USA has become mostly desert or scrub land (its very very brown). This has always galled me since globally, deserts expanded greatest during period of extreme cold (i.e. Younger Dryas event). During periods of warmth, deserts overall retreat with even the Sahara supporting lakes and grasslands.

Actually, the Greenland “open sea” thing is only half wrong (to the best of my knowledge. There is a significant depression in much of the center of Greenland, so *if* there was that much melt there would likely be a large lake in the middle of Greenland. Perhaps they are positing that the increased sea level will even connect the Artic Ocean? I honestly don’t know enough about the geography to know if that’s remotely possible. It could theoretically be with tens of meters of sea level elevation (as they are obviously assuming based on the Florida coastline), but I suspect even in that highly unlikely scenario that Greenland rebound might still keep the connection to the Artic Sea closed.

My car is covered with ice this morning. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area that usually starts happening in the middle of December and continues on and off until about the middle of March.
But it’s only November. Must be the Gore effect— the cold winds created from his book falling so quickly out of the Amazon Top 100.
Interesting. Central Florida (elevation 30m or so) looks to be above water, but the mountains that ridge Baja California seem to be completely underwater. I imagine the peaks near 5000 feet would form some small islands, but the numerous ridges above 1000 feet ought to at least form some larger ones.
Also mysteriously not inundated is the Mississippi River valley up to Missouri or so.
You’d think Gore’s artist would at least consult the Google sea level rise map application.

I did a few scenarios on that. What’s required to reduce Baja California to a chain of tiny islands is 2000 feet of sea-level rise. Of course, that also puts underwater nearly the entire Eastern US. 100 feet sinks most of Florida save a largish island, but leaves Cuba intact. Also it puts a fairly large intrusion into Louisiana, but it leaves North and South America connected.
Algore is like Joe Romm. If you don’t find today’s climate supporting your dogma, you can always make a 2099 power point screen that will prove your dogma. If Cuba is under water, why not Manitoba also?
Al Gore will go down in history as the P.T. Barnham of the 21st Century.

Quite a few folks have pointed out that some of the hurricanes are spinning in directions opposite to what they should. I deplore this criticism of (on?) his spin. When you’re spinning a yarn you have to go all the way, and what do the little ole ladies and the faithful know anyway. No the models are “robust” and Mann and Briffa, who have just published another paper on this very subject, say so.

Speaking of weird pictures; has anybody looked at today’s DMI Polar temperature graph.
By some miracle of Physics, we now have a two valued function for the mean temperature of the north Polar region, or maybe they have plotted two sets of data; one for AGW fans, and one for Skeptics.
Does anybody understand how they get that graph; those wild up and down jumps of around 5 deg C seem to be hard to explain. How could such a large mass of ice as the region north of 80 deg suddenly change overnight by five deg C, and then just as rapidly switch the other way. There must be some pretty agressive “heat” flows associated with that kind of temperature change.
The JAXA ice graph though seems to have recovered, and the red line is now headed north in a hurry, back to ordinary normalcy for this time of year.
But I am getting ever more suspicious of that DMI temperature; and the explanation of how they get their numbers all sounds like gobbledegook to me.
Doesn’t anybody simply plot what the thermometer says any more ?

I find nothing wrong with a work of fiction showing hurricanes blowing backwards as well as displaying complete ignorance of geography and physics.
It is fitting that the backwards hurricane, an important logo from Gore’s SF movie, should be used on his latest climate fantasy. Many authors use whimsical symbols such as that as sort of an insider’s joke. for Gore, backwards hurricanes are sort of a wink at the audience.
Everyone knows Gore is just schlepping out this stuff to help with his deep seated need to make a lot of money. No one really paying attention actually believes Gore’s fantasies, do they?

I agree. There’s nothing wrong with providing a graphic to illustrate a potential future state. I assume there are words to that effect in the book–something like, “Here’s a picture what will become of the planet if business as usual continues.”
What’s silly isn’t the illustration, but the assumptions behind it.
Ten years from now we’ll all be glad that Gore went out on a limb like this, with a concrete prediction. It’ll be ammo for our side, which we’ll reproduce gleefully. So we should be glad now that he’s gone on the record in such a falsifiable fashion.

Well I’m not sure what they did, but now at least it isn’t double valued any more.
But I must confess, that so far I am unable to deduce from what they say on their site; whehter this graph is from an actual real live thermometer reading, or whether it is the output of some computer model, of what the temperature is predicted; excuse me projected to be, or what.
In any case the red line and the green line aren’t even remotely similar; so it makes me wonder what last years red line looked like. Izzat green line some kind of composite smoothed out low passed 13 month running average by month of some 21 year mean of something else.
I must say that the lingo of climatology sounds a lot like something you would hear on Coast to Coast AM from one of George Noory’s wacky guests.
All this year-on-year plot by month data submission. Do they speak English at any of the schools that teach this stuff; it seems that the verbiage permeates all the peer reviewed literature ? What’s so laughable about that image is that would’ve been much easier to use publicly available 3D topographic data of Earth then use any 3D rendering program to enclose it with a high resolution sphere then adjust the sphere’s size to set the desired “sea level”.
Keeping to the penny-pinching thing, Blender and trueSpace 7.61 are both free 3D programs and plenty powerful enough to create a much more convincing image of “elevated sea levels” than the amateurish POS on that book cover.
For even more fun, look up how many Pacific storms there were in 1979 and the largest cyclonic storm ever observed, Typhoon Tip. Such a small name for a storm that reached almost 3,000 miles across at its peak.
I’m wondering what a “super-typoon” is, and how I can get me one of them.

And for some irony…tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live featured the “What’s Up With That” sketch. Al Gore was one of the guests, and was plugging his book.
Well, it looks like the wait-time at the panama canal has been reduced. And no more pesky passage/duty fees!
This is so funny. Clearly, the author of a book reviews and approves the jacket art. Obviously, Al Gore knows NOTHING about tropical storms, even which way they spin.
And as for his sea level adjusted surfaces, clearly the books author has no idea about geography of the planet, where mountain ranges exist, etc.
Oh,thats right, he only knows about hot air.
I sent this to the guy who runs the photoshopdisasters blog. I think this qualifies. I am starting to wonder if the artist that did this doesn’t believe in AGW and intentionally made it this terrible.

South Asia is the groud zero of climate change.
Now is turning the epicenter of revolution.
Revolution against an economic model that make some rich in the cities, the Great Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi, while the poor people in the drought-parched countryside is starving, and are victims of exploitation, caste-discriminitation, and the worse of all, they are IGNORED by the world.
Now they have begun a revolution. Now cannot be forgotten and ignored.

listen up commonsense, who are we to discourage a rebellion? lets not try to avoid the lower classes rebelling, encourage it! if they do not rebel and continue to let their countries be run by a few fat cats in their cities, that is their problem until they muster up the backbone to stop it themselves. as for the climate change, it is laughable. when i was in high school, i heard about climate change, and promised myself to be a neutral party until i heard the facts from real experts. i have traveled all the way to Washington DC and talked to five different scientists/professors. two who say humans have induced climate change, one who said it was a combination of human efforts and natural cycles, and two who said we haven’t changed anything. i kept an open mind during all interviews, and seriously analyzed information from all sides. i have come to the conclusion that it is more arrogance than anything else that convinces people that their actions are destroying the planet. to think that what we do as a people is so powerful that it messes up the entire world is pure exaggeration and naivety. The whole climate crisis is a manufactured media scare tactic to make money and is a front for a whole different global agenda by some. I for one will not stand by and let government dictate what i do in a free country (which as a side note is growing less free by the day) because of a fake public outcry against climate change, which makes them pass some bs laws (because they don’t care what is right, they only care about getting re-elected) that restrict my freedoms. As far as gore goes, he is a pitiful and pathetic excuse for a leader of of a global movement. here’s a funny fact, Al gore Lambasted president bush for being “totally ignorant” of green energy and climate issues. however, did you know that president bush’s house in texas is heated by geothermal energy and that solar panels and windmills create his electricity? His ranch is a carbon neutral home.Al gores mansion on the other hand uses TEN Times the amount of electricity that an average american home uses. his book should be considered closer to a george carlin comedy book than the “truth” it’s being portrayed as. slow sarcastic clap to the photoshop artists who didn’t bother to look at how hurricanes form or which dirctions they spin in.
What’s even more sad is that every single one of my reresentatives and senators that I write believes this stuff, and are using it in their excuses to support crazy bills!

Cuba is not on the cover meaning it is under water. Google Earth has the highest point on the island at 2005 meters (6578 feet). Denver is about 6000 feet. Shouldn’t most of the gulf states and midwest be underwater? I am embarssed Gore is an American, mabe we can trade him off to reduce our carbon footprint.
The fantasy world of Gore is very much reminiscent of the fantasy world of Soviet Communism. When I saw the two photos in this article, my first thought was “the commissar vanishes”. It’s the name of a fascinating book by David King that traces the history of political photo faking in the Soviet Union. On the cover, there are four versions of one image –Stalin with three comrades, then two, then one, then Stalin stands alone. All three were murdered, then erased from history. Many pictures of crowds were doctored to make it appear as though many more people turned out to see the glorious leader that actually did. There are also images of industry (western industry) that were doctored up and used to show awesome Soviet technology.
Luckily Gore and his fellow travelers are still trying to convince us (the workers) that CO2 is the new Satin –and that he has divined a path to salvation from said evil. He congers imagery of floods, hurricanes, famine, disease, and pestilence. He sells Indulgences. He encourages the use of verbiage such as “denier” to vilify climatheists. But in the end, Commissar Gore is a buffoon, and people will distance themselves from him. I hope.
Er… you know that this image is a projection that is intended to show how climate change could lead to radical changes in weather, right? If the artist who created this image missed out on things like the height of Cuba’s mountains, and what not, it does not mean climate is not happening. Everybody makes mistakes… look at you guys… I bet most of you voted for Bush not one, but twice.
Once again… every major scientific body on the planet agrees that A) the planet is heating up, and that B) human activity is largely responsible.
But hey… I hear Sarah Palin disagrees with this, and she went to some university in Iowa or something, so she must know what she’s talking about, right?
And just as a quick note before I eff off… let’s say our CO2 output doesn’t cause the planet to warm. It is still resulting in acidification of the oceans, which threatens the entire foodchain. You may now proceed to deny this.
