Al Gore still addicted to nonexistent hurricane-climate link in new book

Gore 2.0, now with Pacific Hurricanes, coming to a book store near you. Gore plans to hawk it on David Letterman next Tuesday night. One more reason not to watch Dave anymore. One can always hope though. Maybe he’ll feature Gore as a “stupid human trick”.

Al doesn’t seem to learn when it comes to visuals. Or maybe he just thinks that he’s obligated to put a picture of a hurricane on the front cover to keep the theme of AIT going. Either way. Any imagined link between hurricanes and global warming has evaporated.

FSU-ACE_vs_GISS-oceantemp4

My prediction:  sales will be a fraction of AIT, and it probably won’t make the NYT bestsellers list. People are tired of the yap, as indicated by recent polls.

Here’s what he has to say about it on his blog (note: he doesn’t take comments)

From the Press Release:

Today Vice President Gore announced that his next book, Our Choice, will be published by Rodale in the US and by other publishers internationally on November 3, 2009. Picking up where An Inconvenient Truth left off, Our Choice utilizes Mr. Gore’s forty years of experience as a student, policymaker, author, filmmaker, entrepreneur and activist to comprehensively describe the real solutions to global warming. A co-recipient of the Nobel Peace prize in 2007 for his environmental work, Mr. Gore continues to make sense of the pressing issues we face and Our Choice will unquestionably inspire and rally those ready to fight for solutions that were deemed impossible only a short time ago.

Said Vice President Gore, “An Inconvenient Truth reached millions of people with the message that the climate crisis is threatening the future of human civilization and that it must and can be solved. Now that the need for urgent action is even clearer with the alarming new findings of the last three years, it is time for a comprehensive global plan that actually solves the climate crisis. Our Choice will answer that call.”

Since the publication of the New York Times bestseller An Inconvenient Truth and the release of the Academy Award® winning film of the same title, Mr. Gore has led more than thirty “Solutions Summits” with top scientists, engineers and policy experts to examine every solution to the climate crisis in depth and detail. Our Choice draws on conclusions developed through those summits as well as on extensive independent research, describing how the bold choices necessary to save the earth’s climate should also be the foundations of policies worldwide to create new jobs and stimulate sustainable economic progress.

As they did with An Inconvenient Truth, former Vice President Gore and Mrs. Tipper Gore will donate 100% of the proceeds of the book to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-profit, non-partisan group dedicated to spreading awareness about the climate crisis and how to solve it.

Our Choice will feature 100% recycled paper, locally produced and sourced editions, low VOC inks, and will be carbon neutral.

“Rodale is honored to continue our relationship with Vice President Al Gore,” said Rodale Inc. President and CEO Steven Pleshette Murphy. “We were proud to publish An Inconvenient Truth and very much look forward to bringing Our Choice to the growing audience of committed citizens who are seeking solutions to the climate change crisis. In the spirit of our longtime mission, we are dedicated to creating the greatest possible platform for Vice President Gore’s work and message.”

Simon & Schuster Audio, who published the Grammy Award winning audio version of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, will publish the audio edition of the book on CD and digital download simultaneous with the hardcover publication.

The Pacific was called the Pacific for a very good reason, and it wasn’t to do with, unlike Mr Gore, large volume of wind.

My quick first reaction to the cover:
1. The hurricane was (a) Photoshopped in and (b) doesn’t appear accurately scaled (super-sized), (c) is overly white and (c) doesn’t follow the curvature of the Earth.
2. The bulk of North America has been turned into an inhospitable desert.
3. The ice-free Arctic that until now has only existed in Mr. Gore’s imagination is actually pictured here.
4. Sea level has risen enough to thin the piece of Mexico between the Bay of Campeche and the Gulf of Tehuantepec.
From these observations, we can glean that the plan to solve the climate crisis involves frightening the credulous with Photoshop.

Where to begin…from the press release:
“Our Choice draws on conclusions developed through those summits as well as on extensive independent research, describing how the bold choices necessary TO SAVE THE EARTH’S CLIMATE should also be the foundations of policies worldwide to create new jobs and stimulate sustainable economic progress.”
So….let me get this straight: An opportunistic species that used to hang from trees…all in the past 100,000 years….is going to “save” the Earth’s climate….a system which dwarfs our species….in size and scope by many, many, MANY orders of magnitude…and has been around for the past 4,600,000,000 years??
When you have international figureheads like the bloated Al Gore, and his dead-pan, dim personality, it….
…makes one realize that the condition of “devolution” is real.

Today I received my monthly Costco Mag with Al Gore on the front cover (an old before weight gain photo) which went into the trash. I sent Costco an email requesting that the next mag have an alternate view to Al Gore’s on the issue of global warming and that I was suspending my shopping at Costco until they present a balanced view of this issue. This stand will cost me $ for some home an office products, but I am tired of everyone getting on the CO2 bandwagon to make themselves look “green”. There are real issues with air, water and solid waste polution that companies can help solve, but CO2 is not the right issue. I have to look at this CO2 crap from the electric company each month with their bill, but I have a choice with my home and office $.

Mr Gore’s graphic department is ignorant of basic meteorology! But anyway, manufacture a false crisis and pretend you have a plan to solve it… Just as the bloodied nose of the activist interviewed by CBC after the parliament kerfuffle, it is all manufactured and fake… so one fake hurricane more…
In Canada Suzuki, Jaccard and the Pembina Institute released a publicized report immediatly picked up by the Globemedia advocates in which Alberta and Saskatchewan -British Columbia is safe…- should pay for everything so Canada -and Ontario- can meet their self inflicted targets… Laughable activist piece yet, one should remember that Suzuki and Jaccard are not elected officials and yet imposed a Carbon tax to BC residents…
Finally, I read in the straight that modeler Andrew Weaver of University of Victoria is now dabbling in politics… considering his model is the worst performer at reconstructing XX century temperatures as demonstrated by climateaudit, we can understand its easier for him to predict China’s move than climate!

“Why does Northern Canada look so lush and the US look like a desert?”
Because it is supposed to be the future after we have “killed the planet”. (Although, the planet looks pretty alive in that picture).
The global warming will be turning the US heartland to a dust bowl, and thawing out Canada. Presumably, the US will invade Canada for their natural resources at this point, while the giant photoshopped hurricane will destroy what is left of the US.
Is Al Gores beach front property visible in that picture? Or has it been flooded?

My USA friends, how could you elevate to high office a person who claims to have made a book that it “carbon neutral”? Why not ask him for the equation showing carbon input = carbon output? If he cannot show that, then it’s an actionable fraudulent claim made to bolster sales. That is, it’s not legal.

October 30, 2009 4:04 am

Just goes to show you can’t judge a cover-up by its book.
I have “Earth in the Balance” if you ever want some Pythonesque quotes. Here’s some examples to start the dribbles of expectation.
At p 15:
“On a personal level, this has meant re-examining my relation to the environment in large and small ways – everything from wondering how my spiritual life can be more connected to the natural world to keeping a careful eye on our household’s use of electricity, water, an, indeed, every kind of resource – and recognising my own hypocrisy when I use CFCs in my automobile air conditioner; for example, on the way way to a speech about why they should be banned. I don’t claim any skill or courage as a seeker of the truth ….”
At p 141:
“The environmentalist Amory Lovins tells the particularly troubling story of how a powerful pesticide was used in Indonesia to kill mosquitos that were spreading malaria; the spraying also killed the tiny wasps that conteolled the insect population in the thatched roofs of the houses. Before long, the roofs all fell in. Meanwhile, thousands of cats were also poisoned by the pesticide, and after they died the rat population burgeoned, which in turn bought on an epidemic of bubonic plague.”
This contrasts with the CDC statement:
In the United States, the last urban plague epidemic occurred in Los Angeles in 1924-25. Since then, human plague in the United States has occurred as mostly scattered cases in rural areas (an average of 10 to 15 persons each year). Globally, the World Health Organization reports 1,000 to 3,000 cases of plague every year. …. Plague also exists in Africa, Asia, and South America.
Is this person sane?

Does Al Gorepone’s new book include all the latest evidence that has come to light since AIT? Does it for example, bring to light that there has been no OHC increase since 2003? Does it describe the lack of predicted mid troposphere hotspot, or Lindzen’s paper on the earth’s radiation budget?
Or is it pure propaganda?

In Costco’s lead article Al Gore states there is a “climate crisis”. I feel bad. Really bad. I’m going to help stop this crisis by lowering my carbon footprint by shopping at stores that don’t require me to use as much gas to get to. (Never mind that I’ll probably be saving money, since Costco is around ~$200/visit for me)
I too am sending Costco a letter of outrage for posting this profiteering buffoon on and in their publication. My letter will amount to a bristlecone ring in the grand quarterly profits of Costco, but unless and until I see a balancing article, my spending at Costco just came to a grinding slowdown.
Al Gore my have fooled Costco, but Costco isn’t going to fool me, nor by extension, will I be Al Gore’s fool.

Exactly! This is actually one of the most fundamental and grave errors of this whole ‘green’ movement.
The fact that nothing is being done to actually ‘solve the CO2 pollution crisis’ – because it’s very expensive – will mean that any funding in such a direction will detract significant from addressing the real global issues There are people in the world that don’t have access to fresh water – something that we, in the first world countries take for granted – but they will have a solar grid to power the one lightbulb (CFC of course) in their hovel, so all will be well…”let them eat cake”.

I just fired this off to Costco….
——————————–
You have published an article which uses the phrase “climate crisis” 5 times, and “global warming” twice. If, as Al Gore states, this is a crisis, and Costco publishes these claims, then is it not consistent that I should curtail my driving to Costco and cease making unnecessary purchases to reduce “global warming pollution”? On the other hand, if I were offended by your use of what many credible scientists believe to be climate alarmism, then a boycott of your company would be equally indicated.
Either way, I feel obligated to reduce my patronage of your business to a minimal level.
The fact is Al Gore is a climate alarmist, an opportunist, hypocrite, and a profiteer. His movie An Inconvenient Truth has been found, by credible scientists, to contain as many as 35, and no less than 9 (as adjudicated by a court in the U.K.) serious scientific flaws and misrepresentations. He continues to spout scientific nonsense in a manner that more accurately is religious fervor, and now Costco gives him a cover story pulpit? I am insulted and outraged.
Who couldn’t agree that our dependence on foreign oil shouldn’t be reduced, and who couldn’t agree that we should pollute less? But who should rely on alarming proclamations without studying for themselves the real science, and not just opportunistic news stories when it comes to our future, our children’s future? You have, by this publication bought into the Al Gore Snake Oil sales pitch, and you want me to.
I work in the (—-redacted by me—–) and have not only a strong interest in climate studies, but have access to qualified scientific researchers whose specialties are in the field of atmospheric physics. While you may not enjoy such resources to enhance your understanding of the science, there are plentiful resources available to you on the internet. What you will find is:
There is NOT a consensus, and the science is NOT settled as Al Gore would have you believe.
—Science is not about consensus, it’s about repeatable results. Religion and government are about consensus.
There is massive fraud and misrepresentation as evidenced by publications the IPCC uses.
—The Hockey Stick was based on MBH98 and was debunked years ago by Steve McIntyre and Ross McKittrick
The IPCC’s models repeatedly fail to match real world observations.
—MIT’s Richard Lindzen, an IPCC author, has recently pointed this out
Effective immediately and until The Costco Connection publishes an article balancing the claims of Al Gore, with equal visual and literary impact, my purchases at Costco will diminish significantly, and I will, at every opportunity, share this communication with other Costco members and the general public.
I know I’m only one of thousands of normally satisfied Costco customers, but I also know that I’m not the only one who is outraged at seeing Al Gore on the cover of your magazine.

The stupid thing is that there never was any increase in hurricanes, even before Ryan Maue’s latest data.
If you read the IPCC report, chapter 3, they say in the intro that there has been an increase since 1970. Why did they choose 1970? yes you guessed it, there was decrease in hurricanes around 1970. It’s like the sceptics saying temperatures have fallen since 1998.

IMHO, here is the real “An Inconvenient Truth” —
Al Gore is a quintessential malicious narcissist. He will say anything to get attention and further his personal goals, no matter how wrong and destructive. That he makes a fool of himself and makes scientists on both sides of the argument cringe in the process makes no difference. As long as he is able to feed his pathological need for affirmation by snowing the uninformed and fearful or hapless stooges like Letterman with utter nonsense, that is all that counts.

Those of you writing to Costco [I used dialogue@costco.com] regarding the Al Gore article might be interested in the response I got from them:

Your message

was deleted without being read on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 11:00:28 -0700

My email to them was polite even though firm and to the point, yet no explanation whatsoever.
Go figure.
It would be interesting to see what sort of response others receive.

Tim S. (10:11:59) : I can’t resist but, you missed a non-nonsensical one:
Oragel-which is only a slightly incorrect spelling of an actual tooth ache medicine.
And yes, I think I prefer tooth aches to Al Gore.

Interesting that Rodale is publishing this, the Rodale which has championed a psuedoscientific pursuit of health and medicine for decades.

Stephanie Bradley from Costco responded to me with this:
“At times we publish articles that may be seen as controversial to some and acceptable to others. It is our policy to let our members decide what is acceptable by what they choose to read. Our member’s opinions and views on personally controversial persons or articles are always welcome and their refusal to purchase any products or read any article for personal, political, or religious reasons is respected and honored.
In terms of the articles we publish in the magazine, our coverage has included – and will continue to include- everyone from Tim LaHaye to Howard Stern. Again, we rely on time for the balance and on each member’s judgment to choose what he or she wants to read.
We have forwarded your comments to our business executives for their review. Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us.”
At least they responded quickly and politely. I just hope that they begin to understand how serious the problem is.

Marc Shepard writes in American Thinker: “Gore Gone Wild: Predicts 220 Foot Sea Level Rise in 10 years” and also mentions an ice-free Arctic in winter. Maybe it’s a humor book.

It also looks like there will no longer be any locks along the Panama Canal. The Photoshopper has us sailing right through. All those poor canal workers that died from diseases – if Gore could have only been alive back then to tell them to spare the time and effort – and spare us from his presence now.

North Atlantic Hurricane Season slowest since 1997
Global and Northern Hemisphere Tropical Cyclone Activity remains near 30-year historical lows — three years in a row now of considerably below-average activity globally

F. Ross (15:56:23) :
Regarding my previous post in which I observed that my email to the Costco Connection editor was “DELETED”; apparently it was read after all.
This morning I received this balanced response from Costco. My thanks to Mr. Foster Jones of The Costco Connection.

Hi F.,
Thank you for your e-mail. Your points are well made, and I have to agree that the issue of climate change was not presented in a balanced manner.
We are, at this time, trying to rectify this by presenting a dissenting view in our December issue.
As well, I want to assure you that our selection of Al Gore as part of the November issue (which is a really good issue, by the way — I hope you’ll read the rest of it) was in no way meant to promote an agenda or a political bent.
I thank you again, and best regards,
Tod

Looks to me like that map has been photoshopped to make the green areas brown… I wonder why they’d do that?

Why accept this?
I will certainly think twice before going to Costco.
Al Gore is running one of the great scams of all time.
To a socialist, a socialist hammer is the solution to every problem/crisis, even if they must be faked up.
I sometimes have the Costco/Walmart discussion with my liberal friends and relatives. The words I use are elitist, beautiful people, self-satisfied, classist, anti-working class, blue collar, smug and then hypocrite.
I shop at Walmart and will even more now. It’s less expensive. These are not the beautiful people, they are just sincere and hard working.
The Oh so lofty liberals must soar above the workers at Walmart. It is the same mental disease as Al Gore and his Berkinstock grab for power using fraudulent climate models. Everything is bent to the elevation of the liberal elites.

After all…. it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. Costo’s want for gain may have cost them more than they know. Hard for me to understand why a business would sponsor a cause that would certainly be the downfall of their business… carbon crap and spread the wealth, better known as socialism.

thank god we live in America were everyone can have an opinion…by the comments here I would think this AL Gore character is a baby raper….Even if there is no global warming I would say all the proposals tha Mr. Gore makes would make for a better world anyways.I guess you folks all like dirty air and water and being sucks ups to the oil cartels. My first reaction to the photo is that the earth is beautiful place, and that was from a photo taken in the 70s (cant remember the name of the hurricane) and that Al Gore thinks the earth is a beautiful place and that he wants your grandchildren to still think the same thing when they are old….I dont think Al needs your money and that yu be jealous, your wife don’t look like Tipper!
