Of note – WUWT on WordPress top posts

Apparently there’s a lot of interest in inverted proxy cum hockey stick data. WUWT’s post…

IQ Test: Which of these is not upside down?

…placed second overall on WordPress blogs worldwide, even beating CNN. The only post higher rated with traffic was WordPress own internal announcement post about Twitter (which every blogger sees when they login).

BOTD-101809

Citation: http://www.webcitation.org/5kckhZ0qi

In WordPress perspective, as they list on their main page:

The best of 244,660 bloggers, 177,719 new posts, 218,847 comments, & 45,327,262 words today on WordPress.com.

WUWT came in at #11 for blogs overall seen here: http://botd.wordpress.com/ Most of the other contenders are fluff or entertainment news. Though I confess I do like Hack-A-Day and read it on occasion.

For all my critics and their disparaging words, I must be doing something right, because WUWT is the only blog with science content to be in the top 20 of WordPress.

The hockey stick shaped number of readers continues and the recognition is well deserved. Your blog is greatly appreciated – where else would we go if it didn’t exist?

I see no reason to be surprised at this, Anthony.
Truth will always out eventually and I think we’re probably entitled to a little schadenfreude now and again as well.
My first port of call continues to be WUWT!

The interesting question here is whether the MSM is doing itself a service by promoting AGW alarmism. They are following an old script (fear is good) but it’s a new game. WUWT for me has much greater credibility than the MSM on AGW and an increasing number of people are coming to that view.

Listen to me and you shall hear, news hath not been this thousand year:
Since Herod, Caesar, and many more, you never heard the like before.
Holy-dayes are despis’d, new fashions are devis’d.
Old Christmas is kickt out of Tow
Yet let’s be content, and the times lament, you see the world turn’d upside down.

Thanks you Anthony once again for running this blog. Marxism taught us that only human masses create the history, but they were wrong – sometimes one strong individual will launch the avalanche.

“..Marxism taught us that only human masses create the history, but they were wrong – sometimes one strong individual will launch the avalanche..”
I think that Marx expected strong leaders to begin the revolution. He and Engels wrote in the Manifesto “..’ . . . a small section of the ruling class cuts itself adrift, and joins the revolutionary class . . . in particular, a portion of the bourgeois ideologists.’
He was expecting leadership and direction from the class which had always provided it, but going in a different direction. Do you see Anthony as Lenin, or Trotsky…? 🙂

I think it is noteworthy that there was a hue and cry, and many saying they would abandon this blog because you published, “Obama Poised to Cede US Sovereignty in Copenhagen, Claims British Lord Monckton “.
I believe that most of them did not stop reading, and in fact you gained readership.

“Science is not a democracy”
The Wright brothers were bicycle mechanics.
Albert Enstein was a patent clerk.
Science, at its core, is about testing one’s hypotheses against observations, and in a perfect world it’s the guy who comes along with the better data that wins.
It is not a democracy, it is (or should be) a meritocracy.
Not an oligarchy of insiders.

With that many readers, perhaps you’d better simplify the comment section? How about a field with ten tick-boxes with ready made comments? I would click on the “Keep up the good job!” box, while other may prefer the “I hope you rot in hell!” box. I’m sure other readers can come up with a great number of interesting alternatives…

May I correct: that “sometimes” should be “ALWAYS”. After that strong individual are the ones who find him right and his fight just so we choose to follow him.

At least some Good News.
Congratulations.
In Australia, the Liberal Party of Australia has indicated a willingness to negotiate on an Emissions Trading System. It is a convoluted lite solution. But as it was bullied thru by a Merchant banker of one term we all know it’s not about the Cimate but derivative products, and this is possibly the only reason he was endorsed over a sitting member to begin with. The grand scam. It leaves a lot of people with no where to vote.
The common sense postion even if your are a warmer is to wait for Copenhagen to fizz.
A lot of people are lsitening to their electorates though and they realize this could be the thing that destroys that party.
Anyway quality journalism always works the reward is audience share.
I thank all the contributors to this blog, making it a place to truly think thru issues from data and good starting theory and hypothesis.

Since no one else has made a tipping point reference.
We are reaching a tipping point on the climate, and it’s the realization by the majority that climate alarmism is a hoax perpetrated to generate vast quantities of money for the internationalist cabal that shelters under the aegis of the United Nations, because they know their ideas would get short shrift in a democracy.
For those of you haven’t read it, I recommend Indur M. Goklany’s article on the transnational politics behind AGW.

Congratulations Anthony, I have read this site every day for at least 2 years. This is the best site on the internet. I appreciate the decorum, and the scientific debates that happen here from time to time. Nobody is snipped except for ad hominems, and abusive language. I learn alot about subjects that I didn’t even know existed. To become wise, one must first learn how much he doesn’t know.

Slightly OT … but this may be worthy of a post in itself, along the lines of the FOI’d US Treasury ETS impact assessment on US households.
The Australian newspaper is running a blog on the upcoming release of a working paper on Australian Government FOI’d modelling of the Aussie ETS (CPRS) impact. The blog is here:
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,26226982-33435,00.html
Presumably the working paper will show up here some time today:
https://www.tai.org.au/
Ironically both the anti-AGW politicians and the Greens are likely to be unhappy about the findings, which Labor (the party in power) will take as meaning they got the political balancing act of the ETS right…
Some points of interest (from the blog summary):
“Using graphs taken from Treasury spreadsheets of the CPRS modelling, Denniss argues that when the CPRS comes in there is a slight reduction in the amount of electricity generated from black coal between 2010 and 2020 and virtually no reduction in brown coal electricity — the dirtiest form of electricity generation — over the same period. ”
&
“After 2020, says Denniss, emissions from black coal-fired power stations are actually forecast to rise slightly before stabilising until about 2033.”
&
“This is because the CPRS has no effect on the competitiveness of coal-fired power stations.
The projected carbon price of around $20-$25 per tonne is significantly less than the cost difference between renewable electricity and coal-fired electricity. While the introduction of a carbon price will reduce the profits of the coal-fired power stations, it will not reduce the amount of electricity they generate.”
Remind me why we were introducing this legislation again?

Remind me why we were introducing this legislation again?
That’s because it’s not about reducing CO2 emissions. It is about creating a tax base for the United Nations to transfer wealth around the world, as it sees fit of course.

Yes, it’s the AGW believers who have so intently denied the existence of natural/”internal” Climate Change, not the eeevilll sceptics. The ipcc erasing its own 1995 graph showing the MWP – hey, with “Climate Science” that’s simply not a problem!

The real Flash Gordon only had 14 hours to save the world from Ming the Merciless in the film. 50 days should plenty for our Gordon; after all, he’s already saved the world from the financial crisis, (according to him), so this should be a piece of cake.

Congratulations not only to you, Anthony, but to all your readers whose minds are open to new information and who apply their expertise(s) to all the issues you present. All of us are richer as well as more humble as we learn how much we don’t know — and the more we know, the more we find we don’t know. You are more willing to pursue the unknown than most.
Most important, I think, are “all the issues you present”; this blog is unique because of your personality, your curiosity and inventive mind. You combine science and humor with civility and generosity.
I hope others commit themselves to a subscription — a regular monthly or annual payment — for WUWT. I have cancelled a number of so-called science mags and journals so that I can support real science, A heartfult thank you.

Some criticism of the methods used by wordpress to determine that WUWT had the second highest traffic count was leveled today by Dr. Michael Mann. He is quoted as stating “the usage of upside down data is bizarre”. Multivariate regression methods are sensitive to the sign of predictors. Screening, when used, employed one-sided tests only when a definite sign could be a priori reasoned on coffee grounds. Potential RC nonsystematic influences on the CNN and other blogsites proxies were discussed in the heliosphere, which showed that inverted numerical conclusions relied on their use.
To interpret: Well done, Anthony!
