WUWT visitor traffic holding steady

You may remember last month I posted adjusted numbers for WUWT due to a SPAM attack, dropping my September count by about 50K:

SEPTEMBER NUMBERS Click for full sized image

For September 2008 the total was 846,193 page views, up from 667,215 page views in August 2008.

But there is a caveat, I think the real numbers are just shy of 800,000, because on the weekend of 09/20 and 09/21 I got quite a bit of unexpected traffic to one old post that I’m not sure is real or not. During that time, we got a lot of Spam on that particular older entry comparing UAH, RSS, HadCRUT, and GISS, but not anywhere near the numbers specific to that post, shown below:

Blog Stats Increase due to DOS “something”

Saturday 09/20 23,486

Sunday   09/21 25,319

Monday  09/22   1,006

Total: 49,811

Raw WUWT September numbers:           846,193 page views

WUWT Spam Uncertainty numbers:           -49,811 page views (from 09/20 to 09/22)

Final Adjusted WUWT September numbers: 796,382 page views

Today at 5PM (00UTC) I tallied my October numbers, and while they are slightly lower than last month’s total, I didn’t have any perceptible spam attacks like last month, so I don’t need to adjust October’s numbers:

At 826,633 page views for October, that would put me up slightly from last month’s adjusted numbers of 796,382, but there was also an extra day involved (September hath 30 days). Since that difference is close to my daily average, we’ll just call it “no change” for October.

Of course many of you are either hoping for “change” or “no change” in November. 😉

Thanks again to all of you, and especially those whom have donated recently to help keep this effort going. My UHI test in Reno was funded in part through your donations. Another trip this weekend to retrieve two dataloggers that have been out for 45 days will also be assisted by those same donations. Again my thanks.

Have a wonderful Halloween!- Anthony

Maybe you can do some creative adjustments like GISS and you’d have record months every time 🙂

Thanx for that link, Leon B. The trend is clear: RealClimate and Climate Crisis are definitely falling. WUWT is probably picking up some of the folks who don’t like the fact that Al Gore’s site and Gavin Schmidt’s site both arbitrarily delete/censor posts that contradict their True Belief in globaloney.
Score one for honesty and fair dealing.

Its a big thanks to you Anthony, thank you for a truly great forum where even the little guy can have his say. WUWT is a true republic.

Well, I’ve been talking you up on the MSN blogs, so I hope that helps. I was so proud when they started a discussion on the MSN Money Politics site without me on how Global Warming doesn’t seem to be happening. For a long time I was the lone looney. I told them, I would stay and yell loud enough and long enough until someone actually paused when they heard that the warmest month were in October and November.
Keep up the good work, guys. I’m not a scientist but I am a statistician. Garbage in, garbage out. Beware Mr.Gore! I have a mouth and I know how to use it.

Over 800,000 hits per month is impressive. We are indebted to those people, like yourself, who have the enthusiasm, knowledge, time and skills to provide background to one of the most important issues of our day. Thank you.

Dear oh dear, adjusted numbers. You’ll have the climate auditors after you…

PS shame you shut down the methane uptick thread. I was going to post an answer to the puzzle. It’s on my website and has been since Feb 06.
REPLY: I’ll give a try reopening it, but if it strays badly off topic again like it did yesterday, I’m going to close it again. – Anthony

I have blog envy.
Still– Ditto what SteveM said. I’m sure there must be some blog equivalent of “urban heat island adjustment”. Let’s apply that and get your real stats. 🙂

Anthony,
If I google CLIMATE CHANGE SKEPTIC the fourth hit down is David Suzuki, then the BBC who reference Gristmill, You are now one of the top climate skeptical blogs, why are you not on the first page, google climate change or global warming and I can`t find you.
If you appeared on the first page I believe your hits would be stratospheric and many more looking for enlightenment would find you.
The third hit down is (climate change skeptic) that should be you.
REPLY: You have a point, perhaps I’ll change the masthead. When I coined it, I wasn’t focused as much on weather and climate as I am now. Perhaps it is time for a change so that search engines find it better.

I have a technical question about how visits are counted. I use the Google Reader to monitor RSS feeds. With Google Reader, I can read the content of new posts on this site without actually having to click through to here. Are the various counters smart enough to count that as a “visit” or should I come here each time to be counted?

Rob,
There must be some computer expert among the readers who could easily remedy that.

Yet again Christopher Booker in the Sunday Telegraph, with another of his excellent articles, is doing his best to publicise “the admirable Watts Up With That website”. See http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2008/11/02/do0207.xml . Keep it coming Anthony.

Anthony,
Congratulations on the numbers; even the adjusted ones, even Hansen and Mann adjust their numbers; must be the mark of a well run operation.
Do you archive stuff, and is there away to get it. I think your GISS/RSS/UAH/HADcrut comparison is deserving ofa n encore performance just the refresh what that was all about. aprticularly in light of the great ice melt caper, and your UHI studies, people might want to revisit that comparison chart, since all those other things are presumably a result of the big 4 activities.
Just asking.
George
