Word is out that NBC Universal has bought The Weather Channel from Landmark Communications. I guess someone got fed up with John Coleman's calling bulls**t on Algore. Anthony Watts decided to have a little fun with renaming TWC after the deal goes…

How about a massive boycott of GE goods and services. And don’t laugh… Boycotts can be devastating to corporations. When Toys R Us took all toy guns and such off their shelves, the 2nd Amendment supporters mounted a “Silent Boycott” and killed their sales. They have NEVER recovered! When some Christian groups mounted a boycott (AND NOT VERY SILENT) against Victoria’s Secrets, they were so successful VS dramatically cut back on their soft advertising porn (it has certainly made me cut back on purchases for myself ). When Ford (and to a lesser extent GM) began an active support campaign promoting the gay agenda, a massive boycott impacted their sales so badly, they fell (percentage wise and unit wise) far below sales of all other auto manufacturers… And that was before the general business downturn.

The point is, you don’t have to totally boycott a given product to be successful, simply cut back on your spending on a target’s products. Something tells me many folks are beginning to look at GE’s products with a jaundice eye towards launching a boycott. It’ll be interesting in the sence GE has so many industrial, governmental, and military products in their mix.

I actually watched about 2.5 minutes of the Disaster Channel today (that was about all I could hack quite honestly). I could have sworn the woman describing “Hurricane Bertha” was actually disappointed that it will not be hitting the mainland and causing death and destruction to populated areas. But alas, her eyes lit up when she said “Still, there is a chance that Bermuda will be in the path of the storm.”

My immediate thought was, “are you kidding?” Is this woman so entrenched in Global Warming Theory, that she actually wants this to happen, just to try to prove a point? These people aren’t only disgusting, they are insane!

(Advice to panicky son-in-law when a major Tstorm blew through: Turn off the V!)

I probably still won’t use them for anything even their radar updates are about an hour behind.

Yes, the History Channel appears to have become the Hysteria Channel. They overdo such things as UFO’s, haunted houses and numerology, as well as global warming. They do still have occasional gems, however, and I find myself watching History Channel International more fequently than History Channel itself. I don’t watch the weather channel at all anymore. I agree that internet sources, such as Accuweather or Weather Underground, is a better way to get weather information.

Something I’ve always been curious about and maybe Anthony can answer: are forecasts within the US really independent of the NWS? They all presumably start with the same data but, still, they seem amazingly similar.

I also used to watch TWC a lot. There’s something fascinating about it. ‘Course Marny giving the forecast that had nothing to do with it 8).
