Anthony you've been been very good about allowing free speech on your website. That's most commendable, but I think MA demonstrated a need for some modest blogging rules at "Watts Up With That". My suggestion would be to ban rudeness and profanity. MA would be bounced for his (her?) extreme rudeness. Also certain words should be banned at the discretion of the moderator. For example "hell" is OK when used in a phrase like "hell freezes over", but not OK when preceded by "Go to".

Just a suggestion.

Hi Anthony:

I can help out some. I spend quite a bit of time investigating "global warming" and documenting the science on my website:

After my first day of mod duty, basically hitting the approve button with a couple of exceptions, I must say that this is likely the most creative and rewarding endeavor with which I've ever been involved.

Thanks Anthony.

<strong>REPLY:</strong> Just an FYI, "Jeez" is our first guest moderator, to help me take the load off. He's also a person I've met and trust. He'll keep the blog honest when I'm too busy chasing weather stations or writing entries. The hundreds of comments that now come through daily have become such a chore to moderate to keep clean and sensible that I had been falling behind in my primary mission. Surfacestations.org Thank Jeez.

Regarding the volunteer above named "<b>cohenite</b>":
Having read him over some time on another blog I will vouch for him as a very reasonable, knowledgeable, calm and balanced man you could, Anthony, I am sure depend on to maintain quality control here. (Nice sense of humour, too.)

Anthony,

I am not a climatologist, a meteorologist or an astrophysicist. I have never played a climatologist, a meteorologist or an astrophysicist on TV. I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However, I am technically educated, broadly experienced and capable of comprehensive research, intelligent thought and logical reasoning.

My resume is posted on my website. I am willing to help on a part time basis, based on the promised compensation.

Blogging appears to be recapitulating the history of newspapers. What started out as letters among friends then became broadsides aimed at public consumptions which soon required writer/editors and printshops. Those evolved into businesses with daily issues and eventually consolidated into news organizations with worldwide distribution. Of course, the blogging technology short cuts some steps, but isn't it curious that the simple blog is becoming a multi-person enterprise?

I've been alluding to this happening for some time now. I used to own a dial-up "blog" (then called a BBS) back in the late 80's and early 90's and I know how time consuming it can be!

I'd love to help Tony, but with TMCP and everything else coming together all at once, I'm over my head already. Fortunately, one of your bloggers has volunteered to help me and I'll be getting him activated within a week or so.

But first, I have to put food on the table as a Network Consultant with clients across the Nation.

I consider you gave "MA" far, far too much time; and courtesy, Anthony. It also clogged the blog for (at least me) your readers. I would rather know the time had been spent with your children, or pursuing matters which we have come to look to you for.
I will certainly applaud any who come to your aid as moderators; and support those who have a sharp pen when pushed unreasonably.

Unrelated, but thought you might want to know, Gistemp data in: J0.14 F0.25 M0.58 A0.41 M0.36. So still positive if you adjust: 0.12 and higher than both january and february, which clashes with satellites.
