Another possibility – Al Gore just turned 60. Maybe he’s sensing his own mortality, and is scared he’ll go and have nothing to show for it.

Up till now, just senator and VP: this is his “last hope” for enduring legacy, and is willing to give all for the “cause”.

Thing is, he hasn’t scared us yet.

If he wants to make a diference, use that 300 Mil to buy CFL’s for everyone. Give everyone a “green credit” to purchase CO2-reducing items. But 300 mil for advertising?

Buy time on American Idol…

You’re being unfair to the pope with the comparison. The pope actually has an honest job and it would not be a good use of his time to debate something that is after all faith based (both religion and history).

Further the pope is not trying to ride a lie to fabulous personal wealth. AGW is a religion of course just not one that handles rational thought or disagreement well. Maybe Islam is a better comparison.

If the entire issue wasn’t so very sad this would be a humorous post.

It struck me two ways.

1) Gore is calling out those people involved in the Manhattan Declaration that suggested he might be sued for repeating information that he knows to be false reference AGW. If so his challenge could be put up or shut up.

2) An attempt to intimidate with his war chest of $300 MM.

Either way in light of continuously mounting evidence that the wheels have fallen off the AGW bandwagon it looked to be a desperate move to use scare tactics to achieve an effect. Shame on CBS for pandering to him.

Gore is no more likely to debate a skeptical scientist than the Pope would debate an atheistic historian. Al is a true believer. Facts are irrelevant.
His faith has given him even greater international prestige than that he believes was stolen from him in Florida. It has made him a multi-millionaire. The adulation given him as spokesman for his faith by other ignorant believers feeds his immense ego. He saw the Nobel award as confirmation of his faith, views, and opinions as “TRUTH.”
He cannot admit even the possibility that his reality does not conform to the real world. His self image would implode.
Do not expect to ever hear an admission of error or apology, even if the Chesapeake Bay freezes solid.

Was watching the Ice Hockey on CBS Saturday night. When introduced as ‘everybody’s favourite left-wing kook’ to comment about a Hockey game; David Suzuki, one of AGW’s chief cheerleaders in Canada, tried to waffle on about ‘Earth Hour’. One of the commentators promptly shut Suzuki up with a sardonic comment about there still being a two month long cold snap in Ontario. Priceless.

Maybe someone could set Gore up the same way, waffling on about AGW being denied by ‘flat earthers’ when snow is visibly falling at an NFL game in Chicago or similar.

Anthony: Wow, Susuki in a hockey game, I didn’t realize he wa even on the hocky team.

The AGW types have to get some legislation passed ASAP, so they can claim credit for saving the world when the cooling trend begins in a few years. We’ll see a lot more doomsday panic from them in the near future. It may be too late as the cooling may have already begun. That won’t stop them from claiming credit for it. I agree, it will get very ugly.
