What would be really interesting is if you could get one of those science types to set up a thermal imaging camera up top on the new dorms to the Northeast. The morning bloom as the lots fill up and evening re-radiation would make great videos.

Back in the summer I visited Cal Poly, but could not find it, but I found three other weather stations on buildings in the general area.

I am kicking myself. Last weekend I went up to visit a potential college for my eldest, Cal Poly SLO. I knew they had a station and actually found it while touring the campus. Upon returning I went to see if my observations reflected to record you keep and discovered there are no pictures! It never occured to me that a station on a campus of tens of thousands of science types wouldn’t be archived. Here at least is the google map http://tinyurl.com/28kvgk
The area is kind of interesting. The requsite 100ft seem to be the reason for the green bulge into the multiacre parking lot to the north. Letter of the rules rather than the spirit apparently. Second the green swathe to the south is equally not the low grass meadow it appears from the air. It is an experimental runoff and watering open air laboratory. That line in the picture radiating out from the sensor pakage is a mobile spray arm that runs on wheels past the site. So sometimes there is field, sometimes water spray mist and sometimes standing water some 20 feet away from the site.

Mayhaps you can get someone to take 5 minutes from their class schedule and get real pictures for the record. Again thanks for what you are doing.

Since the site (Green River) is along Interstate 80 in Wyoming, anyone traveling that route might be able to make additional progress.

Perhaps through efforts such as these, “tag team” surveying may help get the job done…

300 out of 300,000,000 Americans means that it is unlikely that, for example, North Dakota is going to provide the requisite, well distributed, 3 or 4 people required to visit the sites in the state. Same for MT, ID, SD, KS, NE, etc.

As an example, I’ve been working on skiing at every lift serviced ski area in NA with over 1400 ft vertical drop for over 30 years and haven’t completed the task yet.

A volunteer effort will need additional marketing to get enough participants to complete the task. It may become appropriate to rank the interest in the remaining sites to focus on the most likely important ones.
